If they make you come back weeks later for a shot, you can opt to pay for it in the US instead of waiting. That is what Candy and I chose to do. If you go to a public health clinic instead of a private doctor, it will only be about $50 or so, not too bad considering the thousands I already spent to get this done.

For those who went to SLEC for their medical recently, did you have to go there the following day?

My fiancee was lucky in that she completed everything in one day. It helps to get their early, she was second in line

Not sure how that happens at SLEC, my wife was there about 6AM and finished in one day. There were quite a few ahead of her that day.

The whole visa process. You know since you've been there and done that too. The airplane tickets, the filing fees, entertaining her family when I was there, the whole ball of wax.

Oh, yes. I see what you mean. It does costs thousands through the process and just think, it still not over as there is many things once she arrives that need submitting, updating or supporting.

Question. Once you see how much you have spent does the question come to mind "is she worth it"..... You and I would say yes as well as many others but I am sure there are others that say something different.

Say, after a few weeks here.... have a discussion with her about what she appreciates now that she is here and what does she see are the differences in her "homeland" and USA. With my wife we are always having compare and contrast sessions and it is very interesting to see her insight.... it's scary most of her observations reflect what I have seen. Funny how that happens. Makes for a very compatible mate.

I (beneficiary) arrived at the SLEC on June 18 at 9am with my son (K2) and we were done by 12nn. Adviced to go back the day for my son's tubercullin test reading, which was on June 20. Perhaps there are already less people at 9am.

My son's TST reading on June 20 was at 10:36am and was was positive so he needed to go for chest xray. Was advised to get results on the following Monday but I asked if we can wait for we are from San Pedro, Laguna. Not so near and I will have my vaccinations on that day anyway. The xray results were ready by 1:30pm of June 20 though we were advised to be back at 2:30pm for it. He was cleared and so we both had the vaccines on that day and we don't need to come back. I just signed a note that I am willing to wait for the results within the day. Perhaps that is possible, especially if you are far from Manila.

We more or less do that. We like to talk over breakfast. And every conversation makes me appreciate this amazing woman more and more.

Was it worth the money? It would have been worth mortgaging the rest of my life for. Yes. Without a doubt.

Thanks everyone. I went there at 5am and was out by 3. I don't ever have to see them again. Hallelujah. Just the CFO to deal with in that area. I hate manila, esp that part.

Depends on what you are used to and what is in store for you when you get to the US.

Candy and I are now living in New York, so Manila was good practice.

How was POE for her? My fiancé is coming here on the 12th of July and then flying together out of Manila on the 24th. Did she went to secondary screening since she's entering as a K1 visa holder?

Yes, secondary screening. If you have everything in order, it is easy and fast. The biggest issue is how many K-1s are on the plane since there is only on K-1 line. On her flight there were 2 K-1s besides her.

DON'T make the POE a city other than your city. If you do that she has to do POE there, which may be long depending on the line, then claim her bags, put them through customs inspection and then recheck them. Don't make her do that under time pressure of making a connecting flight. Make POE your city, even if you have to spend more on the ticket. This way she can take whatever time it takes for all that stuff. Took Candy about 1 hour to get all that done.

Not everyone has that option, POE is the 1st airport within the USA (and a few odd exceptions) so that idea won't fly for many. Best idea is to watch for flights with adequate layover.between flights.

I agree with Hank. Good rule of thumb is to allow about 3-4 hours between flights at POE. Should be plenty of time to clear customs and immigration.

My clan (1-K1 and 2-K2's) used LAX for POE and went through in about 1 hour and then collected their bags and went to the next terminal and checked in for their red eye. No issues. There are no non-stops from MNL to Raleigh, NC so naturally she had to transfer planes in LA. She felt that window of time was good and didn't cause her to be in a hurry especially for being in the USA for the first time.

When I went to us last year my POE was o hare and my final destination was dc. I went through Chicago because I bought a ticket from Cathay when they had a promo. I didn't encounter any problem but I was just a tourist.

This time around we're choosing a flight with the least stopovers bec I'm traveling with an infant so even if my final destination is Amarillo, flights to Dallas or Houston has too many stopovers as opposed to a direct flight from Manila to lax.
