You know what? I stand corrected. I had to check those links.

My point is, everyone is running around profiling Muslims. The Al Qaeda is a terrorist group, that happens to be muslims. They don't represent us or the majority of all muslims. Yet, when they do something, we have to denounce it. When gun owners go on killing sprees, do you have to apologize for it?

Still not at all understanding linking someone committing a violent act and a well funded radical religious group that puts serious effort into destabilizing countries and killing as many civilians as possible.. It feels like someone trying to deflect talk of an issue - I know it would not occur to me to bring up Al Qaeda in a local murder case or when looking at gun statistics..

Here is where I get suspicious of the religion in general: When the radical arm of the religion comes into contact with non-radical arms of the group they are used for recruiting, money gathering, and hiding/shielding themselves and activities. There are some sympathies for these groups - not the acts committed but maybe for the goals they are trying to achieve or an understanding for why they feel the need to act out.. I don't really know the reasons.

People talk like these are minority groups - There are many countries that are dominated by Islamic law some to the point of being barbaric and some of those countries not too long ago had a more secular makeup. That is a poison that is spreading.

I don't believe it.. Prove it to me and I still won't believe it. -Ford Prefect

You misunderstand my point. I'm not defending of deflecting from the Al Qaeda. They're a murderous group that needs to be dealt with, but once again, they don't define the rest of Islam as much as folks would love that to be the case.

We have folks listening to Mosques and people who won't fly airplanes with Muslims on them. It's the profiling I find disturbing. And this was before I converted.

I bet you were sitting when you were corrected. :)

I got it that Muslims get blamed for extremists' wrongdoing. Just as Catholicism has had many black eyes because some priests tend to find young boys a delicacy. That's just human nature. Wish it weren't so, but it is.

As for the gun thing, yes, gun owners must apologize, rationalize, and defend their rights constantly because of the actions of a very few wackos. In fact I have done just that with you (which is kinda strange in itself, considering).

And for the record, while my dealings with muslims has been MUCH less than my dealings with blacks, I can say that the ones I met were nowhere extremist, and none of them mentioned wanting to kill me for not seeing THEIR light.

Brother, you have NO idea!!

But I swear to you on your great, great grandmother's grave that it's always in good humor when it's directed at good peeps. And you are one of them. (now to get that 500 lb thingy off your shoulders)

Don't worry. As of tomorrow night, I'll be on reserve status. Ramadan starts so if I post, it will be very moderate in nature. I suspect my stalker will be back around that time since he seems to rotate his hatred of me depending on the season.

That group doesn't speak for all Muslims or Islam. Guns kill 35000 people a year, whether on purpose or accident, that's a fact. More people were killed in the neighborhoods here than the battlefields of Afghanistan and Iraq. Yet, instead of any type of reasonable gun control, we want to talk about Islam as a problem.

So during Ramadan, you are moderate, but the rest of the year, you are unbearable??

I'll mark that on my calendar and un-hide you next year around this time...

I have to dial it back, since we are in a time of reflection and humility. It's the only time I won't clown someone here when they take a shot at me. But it changes each year so it won't be the same next year. It's a shame because the 4th of July is going to be a tough day.

Completely off topic, but... is your inbox full, or are you blocking all PMs?

No, I might be full, let me check.
