Name change

So, I have read through many other threads but haven't found one that matches my situation.

I'm almost done filing all the forms, and I have my sealed medical. Everything I have filled out using my maiden name because my visa, I-20, passport, state id is in that name.

But, when we got married in NY I checked the box that I would take his last name. When he came on my bankaccount I got a new debitcard with his last name. The debitcard is the only thing that I have in his last name.

Should I not worry too much, and just send everything as-is with my maiden name, and mention it at the interview that I want to use his last name on all offical documents?

Or will I be in trouble?

No, you fill out everything in the MARRIED name. That is your name now. That is how you get a Greencard in your married name.

USCIS will accept your marriage cert as proof of name change. It is okay to have the medical and other things in the old name.

OK, so you recommend that I re-do all of the forms in my MARRIED name, and where possible with "Other names used" I write my maiden name.

It shouldn't be a problem to redo the papers, I rather do that now. But it was the medical I was worried about having to pay for again.

Do you have any experience with using a passport in my maiden name, until it expires? Denmark is relatively easy when it comes to name changes but it's a headache getting a new passport.

Yes, redo all the forms and fill them out in your married name. You can continue to use the passport in the maiden name. For travel, book tickets in the name on the passport, and reenter the US with your passport and GC. Take along a copy of the marriage cert just in case, to explain the name difference, but this is a very common situation, and you should have no problems. Good luck.
