Hello Everyone,

I am writing this forum in regards to something I've witnessed for a few months that has now escalated into something worst. I know a 16 year old girl who is living under poor conditions. Her mother, who is residing in the U.S illegally and has been for the past 20 years, watched her daughter get hit by her older brother, whom is an alcoholic and unfortunetly her guardian. The girl's father passed away a few years ago so custody was granted to him since her other brothers weren't able to due to their age. Social Security provides her brother with a check to cover her expenses but he uses that money towards his drunken nights. Her mother lets him do as he pleases and the house that she's living in is in bad conditions also; the roof is falling down, no room of her own, etc. I believe its imperative that issues like this be reported but I don't know how to go about it. As I type this forum, the 16 year old girl is next to me crying, afraid that it will happen again. They were having an argument when the brother approached her and slapped her twice in her face and her mothers response was "that's what you get". Now, I work with children and I know that words are never enough to hit someone else, especially a male hitting a female. I do understand children need to be disciplined, but the mother and legal guardian (brother) are not parents at all. They don't care for her; child is neglected and now it's gotten physical and she doesn't deserve that. Day by day I can tell shes depressed that she lost her father. So please someone tell me how to go about this. She does have a brother who is 20 and does care for her. He's at work now and am waiting on him to return before i call the police

Up to you.

There are no right answers.

You're the witness. You need to decide what you need to do based on what you observe.

The rest of us don't know what is going on as we are not witnesses to this abuse.

Thanks I am

If You are willing to help but scared, You can get a little job for this young lady

and go with her to court to file EMANCIPATION. I understand U not wanting to

stand up to violent ppl, or getting into familiy affairs, that's an easy way for her

to get out but she must get or have a little job & be in school or taking GED classes

for the judge to emancipate her....I think she is also given a case worker who check

to make sure, she maintaining work & classes...with U witnessing this it will help her
