Sudanese mother sentenced to death for 'converting to Christianity' freed after international outcry.

A 27-year-old woman sentenced to death last month for converting from Islam to Christianity in Sudan has been freed from prison after a court ordered her release.

The case of Meriam Ibrahim, who is married to a Christian American, triggered an international outcry.

She gave birth to a baby daughter while in prison.

'The appeal court ordered the release of Mariam Yahya and the cancellation of the (previous) court ruling,' Sudan's SUNA news agency said. The couple's 20-month-old son was also held in prison with Ms Ibrahim and her newborn daughter.

To be truthful she new her environment so king of brought it upon herself . She should have moved to a third country.

Wow. I was posting here yesterday about how she would probably "disappear" soon and we'd never hear about her again. But work took me away, and I never got back to this. Then you post THAT? Just... wow. How convenient that they are now not entitled to court proceedings since the case is now based upon "national security".

In an interview with CNN earlier this month - before her release - Al Samani Al Hadi Mohamed Abdullah said that if Meriam was killed, it would have 'enforced God's word' because she broke sharia. He then threatened to kill her himself if she was not executed.

Meriam may have been rearrested because she offended the Islamic sense of honour and now they want ‘revenge’, her brother said today.

CNN Arabic quoted the unnamed relative as saying that Meriam caused grave offence when she ‘smeared’ their religion by refusing to renounce her Christian faith.

It appears to be the same family member who filed a lawsuit against Meriam which effectively began criminal proceedings against her - and vowed to kill her if the court did not follow through on the death sentence.

The brother said: ‘It’s a matter of honour now. Christians smeared our honor and we know (how) to revenge’.

Christians smeared our honor and we know (how) to revenge’.

In Sudan, abandoning Islam to convert to Christianity or another faith is an offense punishable by death under the country’s 1991 penal code. The court gave Ibrahim a chance to renounce her Christianity in order to avoid the death sentence, but she refused to do so.

The court ruled that she would be allowed to care for her second baby for two years, then Ibrahim would be hanged.

Looks like in 2 years she will hang. At least the child will have that. Should this child be brought up Christian or with Islam?

I doubt if the child qualifies for US Citizenship direct, but there should be no reason why the Father can not petition for her.

There IS a reason... he's being held prisoner in a foreign country.

Besides, she will be dead before USCIS ever grants her entry...
