Hi! I just got my visa packet and I notice a slight damage one the envelope. I called US embasy Manila and they said that I should send the packet back to them rather than risking this and have a problem in my POE. If i'll send this back to them they don't have a definite time on when will the packet be send back to me. I am torn whether I should send it to them or just risk it, anyway is just a small tear. Please help me.

Return it. That's an obvious tear and CBP officer at POE will notice it. Demand a definite date from USEM.

If it is just a very small tear then don't worry, keep it well protected inside the plastic bag wrapped up good so it doesn't tear further. If it is a big tear for sure get it back to the embassy.

The tear looks pretty obvious to me too, about 2". Personally, I won't risk arriving at the POE with that.

Hello Visa Journey Folks,

My fiance just picked up her visa from 2go today! Yaaaay! But with that said we noticed there is a small tear on the upper left corner of the front page of the immigration packet.

I very carefully opened the packet to take out the passport but its completely in tact and the paperwork or yellow folder were never touched. I am 100% sure it came with the tear from the embassy.

Our flight leaves tomorrow so we dont have time to go back to the embassy to fix it. Will this cause huge problems at POE, or is this something they deal with all the time?

Thanks!

If it is only a very small tear in the DO NOT OPEN envelope you should be OK but a big tear is an issue and needs to be returned to the embassy to re-package it. Keep the DO NOT OPEN envelope inside the plastic bag tightly wrapped and secured in your carry on bag.

If there are no issue the agent at POE will show you how to tear an envelope with style ;)

Heres a picture of the tear. Its pretty obvious looking, but its almost as if the embassy purposely stapled the tear to place it back. Not sure whats going on there but we have no choice but to explain that it was recieved like that.attachicon.gifphoto.JPG

That tear is in one of the documents not the envelope, I would not worry about that. Just keep the package inside the plastic bag and inside your carry on bag, protect it the best you can.

I really would like to but if I do it'll be included on those documents that has been sent for 221g, it could takes weeks or months before it can be delivered back to me. I already booked my flight so as much as I wanted it to be replaced at this case I'll just take a risk.

Hank here's the picture of it.

Ya know, that is a tough call. Being you are flying out very soon and are willing to take the risk - keep the DO NOT OPEN envelope in the plastic bag, then wrap the plastic bag around it tightly and tape it, this will hopefully help keep the tear from getting bigger... it won't take much for the tear to go all the way down from the looks of it, if that happens you will be "screwed" at POE.
