I was going to change my name to my husbands surname, which I wasn't 100% on, but now decided I want to keep my maiden name.

I already wrote on the application I'd like to change my name....

Can I retract this? When and how?

You can ask to go back to your maiden name at the interview. If that fails you will become a USC and can use you BC and naturalization certificate to get a passport in your maiden name. You might want to include the Marriage Certificate and a statement that you would like to have the document issued in your Maiden name. It might be easier to start with the SSA and then your DL. You just need to show documentation required for name, age if necessary and lawful status if necessary. That is why you might want to start with name and age first so you can use your BC. and then move to lawful status--the Naturalization Certificate.

Every time I read one of these threads about name change, I am glad my wife has kept her maiden name and will even if she becomes a USC. Has made the whole process much simpler IMHO and I do not feel any less married.

Good luck,

Dave
