What a mess today in Houston ..everything is shutting down because of ice on the roads. Today was the first day of fully being back at work for me since the holidays and no notice that work would be closed until a few miutes ago. I know I should be happy but its just going to make a more difficult rest of the week.

I think I am going back to bed now.

It started up sleeting and snowing in Dallas again . . . wondering if I should get dressed and head out for the 20 some odd mile drive over to my new project location. I am such a big wimp and the accident makes it a bit worse. I have an 8:30am meeting, but no one has called to say "don't come" . . . hehe, they'll send an email at 8am after we have all left.

have a good one!!

Catherine- remember i had an accident just a couple of weeks before yours. I left the house this morning because there was no news work would be closed. I drove one block listening to the reports of road conditions on the radio. Then I chickened out and turned around and came home. Once in the warmth and safety of being in front of the morning TV news, I started to plot what excuse to use to not make it to work. Luckily i got the call not to come to work!

I was just imagining getting in an accident because some fool would try to drive on ice like a maniac. So i am such a wimp too :crying:

This ice sucks! At least the roads are remotely driveable now.. I'll be glad when this stuff is gone. Schools are closed again today so here's another day of child care I have to pay. Hope everyone has a great day! Stay off the ice! :star:

Well, I wasn't told not to come . . . I called my project manager. Several members of our team are staying near the airport (which is close to the office), so they won't have any problems getting there (relatively speaking). But I'm thinking at least 1 hour if not 1 1/2 hours to get to that location from where I live as things are moving really sloooooooooooooooow . . . he did say I could wait till the roads were better, hehe, which I figure might not be today. I'll probably attempt it in an hour or so. Still sleet and snow coming down . . . I am officially a WIMP!

I think Arizona stays relatively warm compared to most other places in the US during the winter. It's a bit chilly now but nothing like most of the country. My parents are there at the moment visiting my brother, SIL and their son.

I've actually considered moving there because I hate the cold.

Allah tries his chosen people through many hardships, but those who persevere through adversity, surrendering themselves before the will of Allah, shall be blessed with a superb reward.

-The Prophet Muhammad (SAW), as reported by Anas bin Malik

A time will come when the sky is torn apart; when the stars scatter, and the ocean drains away; and when the graves are tossed about, and laid open. At that time every man will be told what he has done, and what he has failed to do; and every woman will be told what she has done, and what she has failed to do.

-Qur'an, Al-Infitar, Surah 82:1-5

Sippin my Northern Lites latte from caribou. I figured it couldn't be too terrible if it's sugar free. I'm thinking of bringing some tea to work and brewing my own, rather than buying coffee. I think I'd save $$$ that way.

Also, finally got the correct size swimming suit yesterday and went swimming last night! Huzzah! I did laps of a variety of strokes for about 35 minutes, which was definately a good change in my workout. Any hijabi who wants swimming gear, I highly recommend www.splashgearusa.com. I didn't get any negative comments about jumping into the pool looking like a scuba diver, and the lady doing laps next to me said that she thought my outfit was cute  I'd forgotten how pervasive the chlorine smell is after getting out the pool, yuck. Good thing I have smelly bodywash and smelly shampoo.

Good morning! It's a little chilly this morning, but it's bright and sunny. Looks like it's going to be a nice slow day. Noura just reminded me about the SS Card. Does anyone know if my husband should file for a new one that doesn't say not for work unless authorized? Maybe I should call them this morning. Anyway, Adil had an interview yesterday for a marketing company. Apparently it went really well and he got asked to come back in for the 2nd interview tomorrow. The only thing is that it's a 7 hour interview! What the heck could they be doing for 7 hours?! Anyway, I hope he does good because I think he really wants this job.

Have a good day everyone!

Still 30 degrees in San Antonio with freezing rain. :crying: Had a light dusting of snow in the Hill Country.

It's got people staying home and off the roads, which is a good thing -- we don't have de-icers and rock salt and chains for our tires and all that. Even with such limited amounts of traffic, we're having 5 and 6 times the usual number of car accidents. We're just not set up for this kind of weather. The city spreads some gravel stuff on the highway overpasses, but it just turns to frozen mud.

The airport has been cancelling a lot of flights -- no departures before 10am, when the temps will start to get above freezing. A lot of schools are closed today, and some businesses are either closed or sent many of their employees home.

The biggest problem is that a lot of people down here don't even have central heat, or any built-in heater at all (like me !) I have a couple of electric space heaters, and a fireplace. But some of our poorer people will try to use their gas stove for heat, and that is often disastrous.

Also, we have a lot of homeless at this time of year -- "snowbirds" who travel down here from northern cities to spend the winter under our bridges. They are having a very rough time right now. We have homeless shelters, but a lot of these folks still on the street have had problems at our shelters in the past -- breaking the rules about drinking, drugs, fighting, etc. So the shelters have banned some of them.

Gonna be a tough couple of days, but after that we expect a slowwwww warming-up. I guess I've be heading out toward work after a while -- color me LATE.

Ok Rahma here come the questions:

1) did the pants "cling" to you when you got out of the pool?

2) i know you were indoors but do you feel the pants would be hot outside in the summer?

3) how about the shirt...did it cling when you went outside?

I'm seriously considering buying one but I'm so scared of looking like a freak when we go to Disney in April. . . though it really does look like a cute outfit.

Ok Rahma here come the questions:

1) did the pants "cling" to you when you got out of the pool?

They stick a little, but if you keep walking, they'll drip dry and puff out again pretty quickly. The pants are pretty wide, so even if they're sticking a little, I didn't feel immodest.

2) i know you were indoors but do you feel the pants would be hot outside in the summer?
Nope. I swam pretty hard and didn't feel hot at all. I could go in the sauna next time and let you know though ;)
3) how about the shirt...did it cling when you went outside?

It does, but you just take the bottom, pull it straight out, and poof, it's hanging down and not clinging. She even has a little illustration on her webpage about it - burping the shirt - lol

I'm seriously considering buying one but I'm so scared of looking like a freak when we go to Disney in April. . . though it really does look like a cute outfit.

I felt a little apprehensive at first, but then I thought, if I wear abaya and hijab in the summer when everyone else is wearing short shorts and tube tops, how is this any different? If anyone asks, you could say that you're very sensetive to the sun, and you need to cover up so you don't get burnt to a crisp. The material is UV repellant. There's a sister in Australia who's swimwear has finally taken off (huzzah!), and she says that increasingly, a lot of non hijabi and non muslim women are buying it because it provides good protection from the sun.

I didn't get anyone saying anything negative to me - a few stares - but the only person who said something complimented it.

Rahma...if you haven't yet, try Tazo Zen tea. It's green tea with mint and a great pick me up at work :) We're lucky here at our firm...they have coffee in K-cups so you can make a fresh cup anytime. Plus we have all kinds of flavors AND flavored cream! Not that I use it but it's a nice option.

It's flippin cold here. We've been so spoiled up until now. I'm so not liking this cold shitt. I want spring!!!

Had an awesome workout last night then a friend stopped by for a visit afterwards. I'll hit the gym tonight after work then go out for a salad with my friend/coworker.

Hope y'all are havin a good one (F)
