In case the OP doesn't understand what RhettVoe means by the two year requirement -- it means that the Fulbright student must return to their home country (or some country other than the US) after finishing the Fulbright program and cannot qualify for an immigrant visa (or adjustment of status to permanent resident) or most work visas until they have remained outside the US for at least two years. While there are waivers available, since the US government funds the program they are, as he points out, rarely granted.

The OP was solely interested in avoiding travel to Nigeria and paying for the normal fees. Maybe being apart for 2 extra years would be OK assuming the man is one of the top students that would be recommended for the program. This program itself isn't for the average student.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

What are the qualifications for someone from Nigeria, to be enrolled in school? I've heard that the student is expected to pay out of pocket for the first year...Also my fiancé is a CPA, how do we go about making it equal to the standards in the USA?

here's how i got my student visa:

essentially you need to prove 3 things:

1. that you have the money to pay for tuition

2. that you don't intend to immigrate

3. that you have strong ties to home

no idea about the CPA thing, sorry!

A friend of mine came to the US to study. She had a partial scholarship for the first year (school was paid for, she just needed money to support herself), then got a teaching assistantship on the second year, and she lived off those money. She is in her final year and got an extra 20 k scholarship that allows her to just study and focus on her thesis.

My brother in law visited the US near the end of his medical training in Nigeria. He was thinking of talking immigrating and wanted to see the US and investigate the path. He got to talk to people he knows that are looking at years before they can convert being a doctor there to being allowed to practice here in the US. The path was not what he heard it would be over there, he left and is doing quite well in Nigeria. Sometimes the best course isn't in the US.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.
