I got my F 1 with about $50,000 bank statement of my parents and some annual income that showed they would support me through my whole study program. I tried to get a scholarship but wit me having a master's degree. All of the scholarship denied because of my huger education (I think it applies only community college.) my friends did in 4 year institutes (most of the got partial of the tuition). Education is very expensive. My books are more expensive than tuition (so do my purses ;) ) I guess they have limited how many foreign students they can accept annually. If everyone is accepted into U.S college, and just come and work instead of go to school full times (12 credit hours are required in fall and winter). Some people will definitely comment on how aliens steal their job!

I mean who actually has money to pay for a whole years worth of school? I'm American and I don't. It's just crazy how they have all this set up. They don't realize that some of the most intelligent people happen to not be Natural born American citizens.

I'm just saying I don't understand why the government makes it next to impossible for good people to come to America. I know about school, it's expensive I'm going back now for my BSN and it isn't cheap.

The US Government does not make it next to impossible for good people to come to America.

The US Government requires that foreign students pay for the full cost of their educations. US taxpayers should not have to subsidize the education of non-resident foreign citizens. After all, US taxpayers are not responsible for the education of a person who lives in Nigeria and is a Nigerian citizen.

You complain that you are an American and you can't afford to go to college.

How would you feel if the US Government paid for a foreigner's education instead of subsidizing yours as a US citizen? If we give a foreigner a $5000 subsidy to attend a US school and you as a US citizen needed $5000 for school, how would you feel that the money went to a non-resident non-citizen instead of you?

How you would help these good people come to America for a free (or low cost) education when a US citizen is looking for money to attend college?

He might want to look into the Fulbright program.

That would be an excellent option.

Our visa laws require that students prove they have the $$$ for their tuition ....and that they intend to return to their country after completing their studies. Those are our laws....even your favorite deity cannot change them (nor issue a student visa).

As to the likelihood of your BF getting a student visa, well, having just been denied a tourist visa, a reasonably experienced CO will see instantly what driving force is behind the student visa request - namely, to land in the US and live happily ever after without having to go through the K1 procedures....and guess what the outcome of that interview will be? Way too many people have tried this end run around the K1 process....first, have the BF or GF try for a tourist visa; when they fail, they show up days or weeks later with a 'sudden' desire to study in the US...at a college that is three blocks from their American BF or GF's home....far too much of a coincidence to be believed....save your $$...aim for the K1, find a third country in which to meet.

Every few threads, someone always throws out the student visa as an option to bring a boyfriend, niece, brother, friend, etc. to the US.

And as soon as the university requires $20,000 or more for 1 year of tuition and living expense to be admitted and issue the I-20, reality sets in that a student visa will be very expensive for a middle class family in the US.

Maybe.

But we are now talking Fullbright.

Cool.

Fulbright scholarships are easy to get. Especially for people who want to come here to live with their girlfriends, spouses, etc.

Very viable path to come here.

Fulbright scholarship will solve everything.

So, why bring up the negatives, right?

One of the fulbright ' s scholar program qualification for a candidate.

The scholar program is for teachers wanting to teach in other locations not students. But for most of the scholarship programs you have to be recommended by the US embassy in your home country.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.
