Hi all,

New here but want to ask a question about a debate my fiance and I are having.

Obviously it is important to be as honest and thorough when answering all questions relating to immigration forms as possible, but my fiance is absolutely convinced she had a psycho boss, describes it as a horrible job experience and she does not want to list this particular employer.

She even has an earlier boss who is willing to cover the time period she worked for this guy if he is contacted by the consulate.

Should we feel like at any time this could jeopardize our whole case if it was ever somehow discovered she was briefly employed for this jerk and she failed to list him?

Or is her employment background more or less asked for out of standard operating procedure, but seldom if ever examined beyond determining on occasion for background check purposes, a person is who they claim to be? And that they did hold a listed job?

How many alien fiance's out there actually had employers contacted by the embassy or consulate that are aware of it?

I hate to have her lie. She is just as insistant that she can't list this guy and take a chance the consulate chooses him to talk to.

Thoughts? Advice?

The employer information is just background info. They are not going to contact the employer or speak with him in any way. Lying can/will definitely lead to trouble. And you are required to declare on the forms that the information provided is the truth under the penalty of perjury, fines and/or imprisonment. So tell the truth (every step of the way - there is no lying with immigration), and don't worry about it.

Never lie on these forms, if the catch the lie they WILL deny on the grounds of misrepresentation.

They most likely wont check employment background. and they are not concerned about the work history.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

I didn't even think about that... My first job that I've had for 3 years (I dont know how I can last that long), my boss was the most nasty sun of a gun you can think of... but I listed it too.. hahaha No worries! You're applying to immigrate to the US.. NOT submitting a resume for a job!!! They are not gonna call them and ask for references! :D

I realize that it doesn't matter what my fiance did as far as a job because, like someone said, it's not a job interview ;). It just seems weird to me that they ask for his employment history on almost EVERY form.

Now I told him he has to go get the phone number of his middle and high schools - along with the name of his last 2 supervisors. That all seems so weird to me.

THey don't contact them... and remember what time of day it is in your Fiancee' country compared to yours... for me they would need to call at 5pm a day ahead to even get close to talking to someone in my Co. before the interview..and even then it would be iffy if someone would be there at 8am..

Probably what they do is look at job history... and if you have worked in the same field..length of job ..etc...and as others have said..it's more of about background information and stability..most likely.. Remember at the Consulate it's about your ability to support your SO so they won;t become a liability to the State...

Exactly Chris - I agree with you.

I've also heard that they do that to check if there is consistency in your answers.

Maybe they care to see what kind of job the SO had. Who knows?

We just stated it as it was, although it took some serious thinking for my fiance to remember back so far.. ;)

Hello,

In the EXTREMELY remote possibility of the embassy or the USCIS calling your employer, they should contact your front office/HR strictly for verification of employement. I say should, assuming you provided a front office/HR contact via the letterhead "statement of employment" and did not have some boss-from-hell (and I've had bosses from Gandhi to Genghis Khan) listed as a contact or draft a letter for you. Again, the feds are only interested in the sponsors employment and would not even consider contacting an employer unless they think you are faking your job status.

I had a similar question. My fiancee said that they ased for th dates that she visited the US. She lived in Canada for 3 years and went to seattle a buch of times and they did not stamp her passport every time so she isn't sure that she can remember the exact dates and times she was there. She wants to be honest but what should we do if she can't remember?

Well if there isn't any record at all..I wouldn't go into it...it might be a bigger can of worms.. but that is only if there isn't a record of her being in the states...

If there could be..maybe she can contact someone she saw...or went with ..to rattle their memory..
