QUESTION FOR JAPAN FILERS, please help!

I have a couple questions about required documents for the CR-1 visa.

Right now my spouse and I are at the NVC stage(one agonizing year of this, and counting) and I just wanted to make sure that I have the documents straight that we are supposed to send in the IV package.

(We got an RFE from USCIS for sending in the Konin Todoke, and not the Koseki Shohon, which was confusing and has made me super paranoid since.)

It seems like Japan does not have birth certificates like America, so we are planning on sending the Koseki Tohon and Koseki Shohon to the NVC for the IV package to suffice as the birth certificate and marriage certificate. Are these the correct documents? There is scant information about what the Japanese words and equivalent documents are, so I really want to make sure we have the right ones.

What did everyone else send in? Should we(even though it was rejected by the USCIS) still submit the Konin Todoke?

Also, they are asking for original copies, but what, EXACTLY, do they want? As long as the docs have a hanko stamp on them, does that mean they are originals?

Hello! We seem to be in similar boats, so I thought I might share my thoughts.

For USCIS, I sent in an original konin jyuri/marriage report, as well as a simple translation I did in Word and a 'certification' that I was able to translate the document. I didn't send in our konin todoke, & I didn't have any problems. I also sent in my husband's honseki.

I haven't sent in my IV package yet, so I'm not exactly sure, but I think NVC only needs the jyuri. Did you send the honseki when you sent the original petition? The Tokyo Embassy website mentions that the honseki can be used in lieu of a birth certificate.

12/21/2016: Biometrics - name had been correctly changed, and all the workers were courteous.

11/28/2017: Infopass appointment for I-551 stamp.

4/2/2018: RFE email notice; 4/6/2018: RFE letter received

4/9/2018: RFE response sent; 4/11/2018: Received at USCIS

4/27/2018: USCIS update - "New card is being produced"

5/12/2018: Green card received

Hi guys.

I think Koseki-tohon will be fine. Coz there is most of information in it.

Honseki, address, birthday, the place u born, parents name also.

And konin-jyuri certificate. We sent both and translate.
