Hi I just read somewhere that the FBI namecheck is initiated shortly after the I-485 is received is this true and if you are unfortunately over the 6 month mark then you are indeed in ###### street pardon my french or the black hole as it's commonly known around here.

Regards Scotty

Yes it is true. There is an FBI name check that happens after the AOS is received. Recent policy states that interviews will not be held until after the security checks are completed. Some VJers have had their interviews but are still waiting for the name checks to be completed. There is no telling how long the name check will take - some are quick and relatively painless and some seem to drag on forever.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Yes, the check begins almost immediately after the NOA1 is issued. Wes' began on November 23 2005 - NOA1 is November 17, 2005. So we are at nearly 14 months.

Six months isn't all that alarming to me. It's not pretty, but IMO it's not abysmally dismal at that point. Anything past a year is.

lal_bradow has been keeping statistics from the members in the loooooooooooooooong namecheck tracker thread. Her evidence indicates that most of these clearances get sorted between 6 to 8 months. Any body stuck after one year seems to be in for a very long haul.

Scotty, would you mind either adding (or cleaning up) your signature so we can see when you filed AOS? Oh, and could you do a timeline as well? It's helpful for board administration.
