Sorry for the random questions, but when is a good time to apply for the ssn card? Before applying for the green card or after?

When did you guys apply for it after your fiance arrived in the US? Should you apply before the visa expires?

K-1 Timeline

11/07/13 - Filed for I-129F

12/20/13 - NOA2 approved

01/13/14 - NVC Received; new case # issued

01/16/14 - NVC Shipped to US Embassy

02/18/14 - DS-160 submitted ; Packet 3 with all required docs sent to Embassy

03/20/14 - Medical

04/10/14 - Interview smile.png

04/10/14 - 221(g) form; missing updated police certificate

04/24/14 - Sent document

06/18/14 - Visa ISSUED!!! :dancing:

06/24/14 - Visa in hand

07/09/14 - Fly to US

08/08/14 - We're Married!!

AOS Timeline

08/27/14 - Filed for I-485 (AOS) and I-765 (EAD)

09/03/14 - Text message that both applications were received

09/09/14 - Received NOA1 for I-485 & I-765 in the mail

09/13/14 - Biometrics letter received in the mail

09/23/14 - Biometrics appointment

11/06/14 - I-485: Status changed to Scheduling Interview

11/07/14 - EAD Card Production

11/18/14 - EAD Card in Hand!!!

12/17/14 - Interview scheduled for January 20, 2015

01/20/15 - Interview! AOS Approved!!! :star::star::star:

01/26/15 - GC arrived!!

ROC Timeline

11/10/16 - Filed for I-751

11/14/16 - NOA1

12/07/16 - Biometrics appointment

I applied for mine before I applied for the green card. A couple weeks after i arrived in the country.

I'm pretty sure if you want to work using the EAD card you have to apply for the SSN before your I-94 expires, otherwise

you have to wait for your green card to arrive.

I could be wrong on this though. Either way, it's super easy to apply for so just do it ASAP

POE date +1, anytime up to 2 weeks prior to your I-94 expired.

not get it done prior? must wait for ead or green card. then apply after.

When did you guys apply for it after your fiance arrived in the US? Should you apply before the visa expires?

Your visa is void when you entered the US. Now your time has started ticking from admitted to the US until 90 days and is written on your I-94. I applied SSN 2 weeks before my I-94 was expired. There are some benefits if you apply SSN sooner.

In some cases for instance when you are trying to open bank account, they will ask your SSN or apply for jobs ( when you already have your EAD). As myself, I have presented my SSN to be added as a dependant of military's spouse. Do not try to apply SSN a week before I-94 is about to expire. They won't accepted it.

I applied for one even before me and my husband who was still my fiance by that time got married. Be sure to contact the SSA office though before going...in my experience, we first went to a smaller office and they told me I can't, so we ended up going to another one who are more informed about it.
