Form I751 Preparation

Hello Friends,

How do I go preparing for filing form I-751? I have enough time to gather documents, but don't want to freak out at the last minute on missing any documents. Therefore, I will really appreciate if anyone can guide me on what documents to gather and how to start the preparation for filing form I-751 to get the permanent greencard.

Hello.

1. Please go to uscis.gov/forms and download both the ROC form and its instructions.

2. Look through the forum at other people's posts and start gathering a list of possible evidence that others have submitted. There is no official list of documents since every couple is different and may present varied evidence. I think this part is the most fun. Also note the responses to posts that describe what is NOT considered evidence.

The link above says, "I-751 cases are generally completed in 6-12 months, currently."

Does that mean even after the second interview it will take that long (6-12months) for me to receive the permanent greencard? I thought they will interview and mail me the permanent greencard in a month's time or so.

I will hate waiting for 6 to 12 months. Seriously.

Very few ROCs get an interview.

When you apply, you will get a receipt that extends your 2-year green card for another year. Then you wait. You will get an RFE for further evidence, or you will get the green card approval. If you do get an RFE, and you don't respond to it satisfactorily, THEN you will get an interview.

It won't take a month, but probably around 4-6 months, depending on whether you send you application to California or Vermont. Very few take a year or more.

If you look at the threads for each month, you'll see the pattern of completion. 4-6 months seems typical with no complications.

Production of the green card itself takes days.

My impression is that USCIS is looking for substance over form. If you have a joint checking account that all your pay went into and you paid your credit cards from, they won't freak if the credit cards weren't joint (most credit card accounts these days aren't anyway). Of if the cable bill is in your name and the electric in your spouse's.
