Fiancee Visa Debt Problems???

Obviously you are quite concerned about the debt. If you are truly in that deep, then you should consult a bankruptcy attorney soon. If you aren't planning to bring your fiancee here for two to three years, get this over with now. Money problems are tough enough without old debt in the way. A bankruptcy allows you to get rid of the debt without any tax consequences as mentioned earlier. The drawback is of course the mark on your credit, but if you are this far in arrears you credit is already screwed up. If you file for bankruptcy, you won't be able to do that again for seven years.

Spend a couple of hundred for advice now. It can make your plans a lot easier later.

Once married, your debt becomes her debt! Be sure she realizes this and what $40,000.00 of debt takes to pay off. Of course bankruptcy is an option. anyway you decide, let her know how serious this is!!!! and how it may affect your future credit, rental, purchases, credit cards, buying a house. etc!!!!

Good luck and just be honest with her.

I don't know about all states but that is not the case here in Florida. Here we are only respnsible for the debt that is in our name(of couse that would include any joint debt with any other person including your spouse).
