Fresh from the bakery? Anything that leaves you with a nasty aftertaste simply can't be good for you. Fake sugar, fake fat, fake oil, all leave nasty, nasty tastes. A little of the real thing goes a long, long way :)

This is typically why we eat at home through the week. My eating habits vastly changed after my wife moved in. No more lean cuisines for me!

Cooking from scratch and using prime ingredients is the easiest way to eat well. It does take time, but interestingly, not as much as people think once you acquire the cooking skills. I am glad your wife enjoys cooking, that does make it easier when you do.

The one thing that most Americans continue to use that I just can't stand is homogonised milk. Luckily for me I now have a source of non homogenised milks with all fat levels and in returnable glass bottles  It is not cheap though, but quite honestly, I don't worry about it. Real milk is simply better.

The aftertaste is from the light cream cheese, not the bagel. The bagels are made on-site.

Right, light cream cheese is pants.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

I use store brand skim milk. Miss fancy pants (the wife) makes her own soymilk or buys organic 1% (sometimes local sometimes not) if she forgets to make a batch. And she has taken to making bread instead of buying it not that we eat a whole lot of bread. But she has machines that do nearly all the work for her. And a husband to clean everything up.

Oh you're crazy. Peas are delicious. Yesterday the wife made me a pulled chicken sandwich and topped it with garlic sauteed rapini. It was fantastic.

Peas are delicious, there one of my fave veggies. I always have some in the house. Rapini, or Brocoli Rabe is also a fave of mine. I cook it in a pot with olive oil, garlic, salt & peppa and Italian sausage, awesome.

Hahahah, the clean up is the worst bit. Home made bread is great, for some reason I can't make it, my bread is rubbish. I might try again though, buying bread is such a nightmare here.

That sounds good, I like split pea soup with bacon, but that sounds like it would be a nice alternative.

She's been having problems with the bread not rising enough. Her current theory is to switch off all purpose to bread specific flour. The bad thing is its becoming a challenge to her and she doesn't like eating bread. As a result I get a sandwich like yesterday with some super thick cut bread so we can get rid of the old batch.

I totally get that, it's one of the problems I encounter too. I think it's the yeast, although the flour does have to have the right gluten factor so bread specific flour is a good idea. My mum used to use fresh yeast and that is better, but I haven't been able to find any here.

Brocoli Rabe is a little bitter by itself, the sausage helps take the bite off it a bit. I make a batch of this at least once a month, it's great to take to work for lunch.

The rapini was paired up with a vinegar based tangey bbq sauce on the pulled chicken. It was a prefect combination.

That does sound good G. Never thought of having it with a bbq sauce.

I put peanut butter on a bagel when I was in Atlanta. That was a good day.

Peanut butter is great on a bagel, especially on a blueberry bagel. My bagel snob friends think it's crazy.
