Hi everyone, I've been eyeing this community since I started my journey with my wife's immigration process. I decided to share my story to give back to this community. The key to this entire process is just keeping sane and not losing track of anything, we all know its difficult to be without your significant other but it will be over sooner than you think if you are well prepared. I just finished Med school 2 years ago before starting my residency and working a full 70 hours a week at a pediatric center and in the midst of all this, I had met and married my wife abroad through a family arrangement.

I married my wife on Feb 14th, 2013 (V-day) and applied for her IR-1 on March 22nd, 2013 (PD). It was during this time where there seemed to be an enormous delay with all the USCIS service centers. Long story short, I waited around 8 months for NOA2 around the end of November. Took around another 3 months for it to reach NVC and get a case number assigned. It was just delay after delay, just don't lose yourself in this process and try to keep your mind occupied.

I received her interview email on May with an appointment confirmation set for June 17th. This was after 7 months from my NOA2 date, so NVC had been undergoing major issues with processing on their part as well from simple things such as assigned case numbers. I realize this situation probably changes every year so be prepared for anything that comes your way. Mind you, this was with NO RFE's of any kind. Preparation of your paperwork is crucial and is perhaps the most important part of this entire process. I did my paperwork through a lawyer but if I could do it over, I would have done it myself. It is not difficult at all.

My wife had her interview at the consulate in Dhaka, Bangladesh and the CO was very friendly with her case and approved her on the spot. She got her visa the next day, on a plane here to JFK, New York tomorrow. All in all, the process took about a year and 2 months in my case. Questions at the interview were very vague and generic which I'm sure you all know by now if you browse these forums enough.

Despite being a doctor with all the added responsibility and stress on a daily basis, this process did not make it any easier so my heart goes out to all of you still waiting in line. Thanks for all the information you guys provide here, I feel its very helpful to newcomers who need the support. Be smart, always take the initiative and never let any of the Visa centers step over you. Remember there are laws they must abide by, learn them and know your rights if any hiccups were to occur.

My journey ends here, good luck and god bless. I will put in a timeline sometime later to help others out who may be dealing with the same embassy/consulates.

Ha ha ha, you journey will be over once your wife makes the PoE :-). Oh wait, 2 years later you will doing condition removal and a year later for her Citizenship. So don't give up on VJ that soon ;-)

One thing you made clear, every journey is unique in its own way, and if we know what stage we are in and what's the official process, it helps to understand and not only that, it helps to get back to the officials. For example, you could spend some time with USCIS (I know 70 hours is long) and MAY BE get yourself out of NOA2 right after 5 months.

Congratulations! Wishing all the best for you two
