Yiddish (also Hebrew) word for "nation." Refers to someone who's not Jewish. Plural "goyim" refers collectively to folks who aren't Jewish. If distinctions are important to the conversation, people would say "the Catholics" or "the Buddhists" or whatever applies. It's used less and less as time passes and the use of Yiddish fades. Not used pejoratively; chiefly an in-house term -- pretty handy as a one- or two-syllable word.

No it's just that growing up we did not have any Jews. I think we had one Catholic family, It was pretty much Black/White. Now we got lots and lots of Mexicans.

When I was living on the upper East side (NY), I was shocked by the racial stratification .

The nail salons were all run by Koreans, and I found it quite unsettling to be surrounded by fellow blondes having Korean women sitting at our feet, doing pedicures etc.

Also all the staff at Fairways were Porto Ricans , and as for delivery boys....

Constantly saw old Jewish women being pushed around by young black maids, and all the white babies nannies were black too.

Felt like I had stepped back in time.

Everyone involved in that was dehumanised by that experience - the guards for running the show and the prisoners for being complicit in their own demise.

There is a political reason behind the movement to bury the holocaust away from the light of current events. The Vatican profited with money and stolen artifacts they received from the Nazis as payment for a safe route and forged papers, as they escaped persecution in Europe.

Off topic there are lots of people who take advantage of war crimes in the art world and screw up deals.

Absolutely agree with you. Those involved in such atrocities, or perhaps planning such vile acts in the future, should understand that we will never rest in going after and prosecuting them.

That may be one reason, but it is not a major one. Much more important is rampant anti-Semitism.
