Tea-Party Attorney: IRS Lying About Missing Lois Lerner Emails

If you go back to my previous post, it will likely be confusing to a non-IT person. What's not yet reached the press is that there are not only redundant tape backups that are monitored and not erasable, but there are dozens of devices that capture and save everything that moves on the network. That information is captured and saved as to the sender, recipient, date, time, IP address, mac address, content, whether it was read, and whether it was deleted on the user's machine, and so, on, and so on, just like the energizer bunny. Every email is there and it's there not only for months, but it's there forever. It's the damnedest thing really that those high-tech network communications experts don't tell people that.

You are right about me not being an IT expert. I'm an IRS Agent and I can attest to the fact about how employees store their emails. What was stated in the article about employee emails is true. We have a small limit as to how much can be in our inbox. We are encouraged to move our emails into personal folders and keep them their only as long as the employee thinks they need to be stored on his computer.

What's not yet hit the fan in the media is just how "inbound" and "outbound" communications are passed from one user to another in a corporate environment with several 'layers' of protection used to prevent intrusion from bad guys on the outside, and to prevent data loss from stupid people on the inside and outside.

The kind of protection used at the IRS is about as tight as it gets. They monitor inbound and outbound communication every micro-second. Any bad known IP or MAC address is blocked and an attempted intrusion logged and monitored. All websites and activity by every single employee is logged and monitored. Advanced Content Filtering is employed by complex devices that look for numerical and written sequences. Anything that looks like an SSN, credit card, name, and a host of stuff that goes on forever is spotted immediately. Everything, and I mean everything is monitored. This monitoring is not done by a device with lights and bells and whistles, but it's monitored in a War Room by dozens of human beings watching everything, every moment and responding to everything, every moment.

Email, whether inbound or outbound starts from a machine, passes through several layers of protection, proxy servers and firewalls before it's allowed in or out. Is it saved? Oh, you betcha it's saved. On the user's machine. Well, yeah, it's there too, but the record lives on the many layers of monitoring devices and tape backups. Anyone who logs on and does anything to change, delete, or modify a record is stored forever. You just can't get rid of that stuff no matter what.

This scandal is not about a few rogue agents. When the cover gets off this mess, there will be several arrogant people in high places taking seminars about how to pick up a bar of soap in the shower.

That's just it I don't think the cover is going to get off this cover up. The fact that the media is even discussing "oh her hard drive crashed" is ludicrous. I never had a user store their e-mail on their computer. I mean sure they could store a .pst file for personal purposes, but the whole information store was backed up every night and stored off site. Once a week one of those tapes was put in a safe off site. The cover story is as if they are rubbing it in our face and laughing at it

Yes this may be true, but your server is still backed up and stored.

Seriously you can't believe that.

Here you have a story involving a lawyer for the Teaparty, and reported by Fox. It must be unassailable!:rofl::rofl:

You should read up on vox.com. It's just as partisan as Fox News, just not nearly as successful.

Yes, I noticed you are not an IT expert and I recall seeing other posts from you about working for the IRS. My work is documenting and validating network security for the US government and private enterprise. One of the more interesting things about those storage policies is that the tracks of all communication are stored forever on servers. Not just on the servers but on all addressable layers of devices. It's just crazy how no one can cover their tracks anymore. A lot of people would be surprised at what a network control room like those used in the IRS and other government institutions looks like. Stadium seating, huge monitors and graphs, and lots of talk about Gladys on the dating sites again, and Lois sending and receiving mail to the white house. They see it, they know it, and only they have authorization to open the doors in those rooms. Sorry, but your key card can't open that door. And those servers are stored in empty mine shafts in West Virginia.

This is too funny. You work at the IRS, and these folks are telling you about YOUR job.

and that's not funny it's scary

No we are telling them about IT and servers, which they admit they know very little about. I have noticed that all the " oh it's just another tea party made up scandal crowd for people who hate Obama", have been silent. You want to explain to us how a personal hard drive crash wiped out all her E-mails, or why she has pleded the 5th twice or why it has been proven it was not just a little local problem.

Of course obama is not responsible and they all do, Bush also. -There saved you the time

Of course. Most anybody with an IT background knows the general principals involved. Why isn't the press calling BS on this ?

I used to work at Verizon. That doesn't mean I knew anything about their internal email retention policies. Now if the IRS was a 10 person operation, that might be a different story. I don't think anyone is telling him about HIS specific job, just information how emails are retained.

Did you forget? He didn't build that. Someone else built that for him.

I've been in those server rooms. He never did and hasn't a clue what happens outside the confines on his little pc.

I used to work for NTCS Sicily, which was strictly IT and ET related. There were plenty of email losses. Some were intentional, some weren't. I know you guys want this scandal to be true so badly. I'd just wait and see what happens next.

It's just funny that he's trying to explain the position from the inside, and no one believes him.

Just to make the point. My ex girlfriend was a flight attendant for United. I don't think that qualifies her as a 777 captain.

How do you know Expat? Are you with him at the White House? Do you get to kick it with him and Michelle everyday?

I believe him. what he said made perfect sense. It also had nothing to do with backing up E-mail servers

Can I have her number? I'm trying to get some frequent flyer miles refunded. Love me some Economy plus!!!

Don't change the subject. If I said you don't believe him, that's what it is. Don't make me pull the race card...

I couldn't tell you anything about how the emails are stored or retained where I work.

I can, only because I work in the J6, which is all IT related.

Edit: Our servers are located in another building all together. Not everything is retained, just a certain percentage. This is why most folks do their dirt on the IM.
