Went to the local SS office here in Sacramento to apply for Digna's social security card and encountered no problems. This is the part that was odd......her new name.....my last name was already in the SAVE system. Here is what is really odd.....I sent the AOS package on Saturday by Express Mail. I tracked it and it was signed for 9:30PM last night (Monday a holiday). So it must have been opened and entered into the system this morning?????? There is no other way it could have gotten into the SAVE system ....right?????????? Must be the mushrooms in the chicken soup because this makes me feel diorintated.....

I don't think SAVE has anything to do with AOS, it's to do with your K1. The logic behind this being you can get your SSN with your K1 visa while your I-94 is still good, but you may not have filed AOS during that time. We didn't file AOS before we applied for the SSN (we didn't get it, but that's another story about the incompetent SS office).

SAVE stands for System for Alien Verification of Entitlememts. Social Security checks that to see if you are in the country legally and on what type of visa and what federal jor state entitlements a legal immigrant or legal non immigrant is entitled to. When Social Security checked the SAVE system when we applied for a social security card, her passport name had been changed to her married name and we had sent the AOS package 3 days before. The AOS package we filed under her married name. We sent the package in on a Saturday and Monday was a holiday.......so when we went to the Socoal Security office on Tuesday afternoon, USCIS had opend the package and changed her name to her new married name. So, it was a suprise it was that fast in a Federal database. John
