Speeding Fine before US Licence

Hi all,

I have just received my green card, but not yet applied for my US Driving Licence.

I got pulled over for speeding in California and have received the fine ($238).

I was just wondering if I paid the ticket now before I get my US driving licence will the fine/points ever show up and affect my future Car Insurance. Or because it was against a foreign driving licence even though I am a permanent resident it is just a fine with no points added to my record?

Am I better off just paying it and forgetting about it before I get my Licence?

Or should I take the case to court and in the mean time apply for my licence and risk the point being added to the licence later in the year?

September 7, 2011: Paid AOS bill (payment portal showed PAID on September 9, 2011)
September 8, 2011: OPTIN email accepted, GZO number assigned
September 10, 2011: Emailed AOS package
September 12, 2011: IV bill invoiced
September 13, 2011: Paid IV bill (payment portal showed PAID on September 14, 2011)
September 14, 2011: Emailed IV package
October 3, 2011: Emailed checklist response (checklist generated due to typo on Form DS-230)
October 6, 2011: Case complete at NVC
November 10, 2011: Interview - APPROVED!!!
December 7, 2011: POE - Sea-Tac Airport

September 17, 2013: Mailed I-751 to CSC

September 23, 2013: Received NOA1 in mail (receipt date September 19th)

October 16, 2013: Biometrics Appointment

January 28, 2014: Production of new Green Card ordered

February 3, 2014: New Green Card received; done with USCIS until fall of 2023*

December 18, 2023:  Filed I-90 to renew Green Card

December 21, 2023:  Production of new Green Card ordered - will be seeing USCIS again every 10 years for renewal

We're you speeding or not? If yes, pay the fine in the time they've told you to pay it. Disputing it if you were in fact speeding isn't going to help.

Someday when you apply for citizenship I would expect you're still going to have to report it so either way its on your record regardless of which driver's license you got it under.

As a good citizen, you have to follow/respect the laws. Pay your fine. It definitely will show on your license and you can't get away with it. The police officer that pulled you over have your ID in record. Unless you gave him nothing when he pulled you over. My friend's friend refused to pay fee for entering the state park at night. He paid big time when he wanted to naturalize himself. USCIS denied his application and said he failed to obey the state laws.

Pay for it. Speeding ticket in your record but not for that long unless it's repeatedly done.

That's how it worked for my husband. Ticket on UK license. Paid fine. Incident never showed up anywhere. Wasn't California and we don't get "points" in my state, so could be different for you.

You will not need to report this on the citizenship application because it was a traffic incident with a fine less than $500.
