Bill and Hillary Clinton have long supported an estate tax to prevent the U.S. from being dominated by inherited wealth. That doesn’t mean they want to pay it.

To reduce the tax pinch, the Clintons are using financial planning strategies befitting the top 1 percent of U.S. households in wealth. These moves, common among multimillionaires, will help shield some of their estate from the tax that now tops out at 40 percent of assets upon death.

The Clintons created residence trusts in 2010 and shifted ownership of their New York house into them in 2011, according to federal financial disclosures and local property records.

...

The move could save the Clintons hundreds of thousands of dollars in estate taxes, said David Scott Sloan, a partner at Holland & Knight LLP in Boston.

...

The Clintons’ finances are receiving attention as Hillary Clinton tours the country promoting her book, “Hard Choices.” She said in an interview on ABC television that the couple was “dead broke” and in debt when they left the White House in early 2001. After being criticized for her comments, she told ABC’s “Good Morning America” that she understood the financial struggles of Americans.

Typical socialist mentality.. We know what is best for the masses, none of it applies to us. Just like the old days of the USSR, when all the good top commies lived like kings

I don't believe anyone wants to pay more than they have to. They are using the existing laws no differently than anyone else. Interesting isn't it that people should resent them for being rich...

Does Clinton claim to be one of the common folks, or merely to understand them? Obviously the one thing she does live and that's the prejudice against women. I do not care what she looks like, now or ever, she's an intelligent and thoughtful person who has done a lot of good in politics and may continue to do more. She is not 'god', she is not better than everyone else, but she is what she is, an effective politician.

They did? In what way, exactly? The Clintons have always been rich, how is this news now?

Why is it that some folks have to make an insulting nickname when talking about people in opposition to them? It's so old and so unfunny.

Complete rubbish. I don't mind criticizing people, and there are definitely things that you could accurately criticize about Hilary but making stuff up because you don't like her is just silly.

This reasoning is just mental. It's always us and them with you isn't it. You can't see past your partisan biases. What's more you are wholly ignorant of the fact that you are biased. Doubtless that's just a liberal conspiracy as well. Provincial mindset and it shows. Edited by Papa Lazarou

But if I said very publicly that I don't think wealth should pass between generations, and I said that as a matter of personal conviction, then I would try to practice it in my personal life.

That is like saying I don't think the speed limit should be over 65, becuse anything over is unsafe but going 75 if it is allowed

Speaking of going 55.

One of the stupider things Carter ever did , and there are so many to choose from
