Hello,

I need to know what to place in question 1-3 in Part 5 on the i-684 Affidavit of Support.

Question 1 says to enter the number entered on line 7 of Part 3. That number is 1.

BUT, then it says Person's not sponsored in this affidavit:

I am supposed to put the number "1" for myself

What about where it says, if you are currently married, enter "1" for your spouse. I am currently married. I was married in April and my wife is the one I am trying to sponsor, so why would I list her under the section of: Persons NOT sponsored in this affidavit?

*My wife is a Japanese citizen, I am a US Citizen and we went through the whole K-1 Visa process, and are working on ADJUISTMENT OF STATUS

*Also, my mother is also helping to sponsor my wife, so she needs to fill out her own I-864 application on behalf of my wife, right?

It tells you on the I-864 form to not count anyone twice. You already put your wife in number 1, so you do not list her as your spouse in number 3. Part 5 number 3 should be 0.

If your mother is a joint sponsor to your wife, then she will also need to fill out her own I-864.

Thank you very much. I should've used the search function, but my computer is ridiculously slow at the moment.

Quick question on this though, would my mother fill out an I-864 or an I-864A? I'm asking, as I may not have enough income currently to sponsor my wife on my own.

That depends. Does she reside with you? Do either of you claim each other on your taxes? Is she married or have other dependents of her own?
