Hi ! I hope someone can help me answer these questions I have a few. I`m getting overwhelmed ! I married an Egyptian man last Dec 2013 and we have filed our I 130 in March of this year . I was planning to sponsor him with my mom as co-sponsor but my income is from CPP about 7,680 a year Canadian all my tax returns r from Canada as I`m a PR of Canada for past 20 years but am an American citizen and am a resident of USA now living with my mom but still maintain my PR in Canada as well I was told this is ok . My mom is on SS receiving 14,472.00, we were thinking of adding her partner she has lived with for the past 10 years but he is also on SSI and receives 10,212.00 both file taxes in USA. Also there is someone who has offered to sponsor for a fee but I was wondering if someone else is going to sponsor do I still have to prove domicile for USA ? I know this is alot of questions I`m just getting so overwhelmed cuz our paper are already filed I don`t know when they will contact me for the next time they have already had our file 3 months so I`m trying to be prepared . Thank you anyone and everyone in advance for any help u can give me . Debra

Does my Income qualify even tho its from Canada and my tax returns r from Canada ? Does my moms qualify even if she is on SS ?

Technically, you and your mother could combine income if you are living in the same household. Your mother's partner's income wouldn't count, whether they are married or not, if by SSI you mean Supplemental Security Income, not Social Security Income. That's what SSI typically means, "Supplemental Security Income". That is not considered income for an affidavit of support.

You will simply need to show evidence your income will continue from the same source and for how long. If it's retirement income, I expect it's for life, just as your mother's Social Security.

I say "technically" above, because an elderly parent is often not a good choice for a joint sponsor, as it could be doubtful they'll be around to fulfill their obligation under the contract in the affidavit.

Paying a stranger to sponsor is really not going to work.

Thank you so much for all your replies it is greatly appreciated. My Income Is CPP it is a permanent disability income I can live anywhere and still collect it . My understanding is that anyone can sponsor if they meet the requirements is that incorrect ? I really do appreciate any and all advise its all getting so overwhelming. Thanks again, Debra

Yes, anybody who qualifies can act as the sponsor, but paying somebody to do it, is unlikely to work. It's also likely the applicant will be asked about the relationship with the sponsor and why the sponsor is willing to act as sponsor. You must first understand that the sponsor is signing a contract to repay the US Government for any means tested benefits your spouse may ever draw, potentially for the lifespan of sponsor. The Consular Officer needs to believe the sponsor both can and will do that.

Thank you very much for your advise . I`m getting a little nervous because its looking like we won`t qualify and paying a sponsor doesn`t seem to be a good idea. Does the fact that I`m on CPP disability and he is a resident Dr. in Egypt and will be the main bread winner of our family have any baring on him coming to the USA or no ? Another question is can I apply for Canada as well in case this wont work in the USA or do I have to withdraw one for the other ?

Just because he is a doctor in Egypt doesn't mean he can be a doctor in the USA either.

There are different requirements around the world and the USA often doesn't accept foreign schooling or degrees, so it's something you would have to check into.

There is no connection of any kind between the process of immigrating to Canada or the USA. You could try both concurrently.

If your doctor husband has significant liquid assets, those can be used to make up the income shortfall at $3 in liquid assets making up $1 of income shortfall. Please start by actually reading the I-864 instructions.

HI sorry folks Im still a bit confused about this sponsor thing cuz we have got some advise that leads us to believe that between us we do make enough money to sponsor my husband we all live at the same residence and as for the amount of money combined we do qualify BUT !!!!!! here is the million dollar question so to speak ....... My income is Cpp Disability from Canada n is non taxable and my mom and her partner r both on SS which is non taxable SO that being said does ANYONE know if the income has to be TAXABLE INCOME ???? Because we were already approved for our I-130 but the next step is going to be the sponsor stuff and I would just like to know if anyone would have any idea before I send all the money and info in if possible cuz otherwise Ill wait and try n find another solution before spending all the money I have already spent so much thus far I dont want to just keep sending If I know we wont be accepted Im sure most people understand this . Thank you everyone in advance for your help !!!!! Debra

Your mother's "partner" cannot be a household member, so their income cannot be combined with yours and your mother's. Actually carefully read those I-864 instructions, and you'll know, I'm telling your correctly.
