Hi everyone

I would like to open a joint bank account for my wife and I as proof of our union for the visa application purposes. My wife currently resides in Australia.

I do not have any proof of residency for my wife, therefore is there another way to overcome this barrier.

Anyone who has had experience in this area, please advise.

Thanks advance

Some banks will allow you to open an account with your spouse after she signs a card and sends it to you. You're going to need to talk to your bank on what they will accept. Some banks won't do it at all, and some are very accommodating. You may need to search out a new bank to get this done.

My husband opened an account with just his name on it and then I was added on during one of my visits to the U.S. - we both went in, i gave them (foreign) I.D. and signed a signature card witnessed by the Bank Officer. (Bank of America) and my name was added.

Possibly some Banks might accept a copies of I.D. and a signed signature card witnessed and confirmed by a Notary Public.

But do you REALLY need to have a joint Bank Account to support the Visa application???

Joint bank account is NOT a requirement for the visa process. My husband and I didn't have a joint bank account and it didn't affect my visa approval at the interview.

However, for proof of co-mingling of financial resources, my husband sends me monthly allowances thru door-to-door delivery and I brought the remittance receipts to my interview. :D
