I went for my written test yesterday and the lady checking and entering my data on the computer asked if I have a UK license. I said I have one but it wasn't on me. I did found it odd though since there is no reciprocal agreement between both countries as it relates to driver's license. I did wonder if she would have taken it off me if I had it and given it to her.

No they don't take it off you. I've had a Cali license in the past and recently got a TX license (sitting both parts of the test each time) and they do not require you to give up any other valid licenses as you are not exchanging it for the new one you're getting, you getting a completely new one. (In the UK I exchanged my Australian Drivers license for a UK one, meaning it was replaced with a UK one without having to be tested)
