Hello Fellow Canucks!

I am flying to visit my boyfriend in the States on July 1st, this is kind of a last minute, necessary trip. My current Canadian passport expires December 2nd 2014. I have always been under the impression they would give me trouble if my passport was to expire within the next 6 months, and I was planning on getting my new passport using expedited services. However tonight while talking with my boyfriend he said that wasn't true, so i researched it and found this information on the U.S Customs and Border Protection:

Travel by Air: All Canadian Citizens entering the United States by AIR are required to present a valid passport, or an Air NEXUS card when departing from a designated Canadian airport.

Canadian Citizens' passports are NOT required to be valid for six months past their intended date of departure. Their passports must only be valid up until the date of their intended departure.

Just wondering if anyone has more insight about this. Renewing my passport now is not ideal, as it would be extra fees, due to expedited services as well as have to travel further to get these services at the appropriate service center. But at the same time I do not want to be turned away at the border. If it makes a difference I am leaving though U.S. Customs at the Airport of Montreal.

Thank you! Waiting for your input! :dancing:

I went to visit my then boyfriend (now husband of 2 years) on Dec 27 to Jan 9th. My passport expired Feb 22nd. I didn't have a single issue.

Try to have the new passport in hand by the time you receive your NOA2. The DS-160 online form asks for your passport(s) information, and packet 3 checklist requires that your passport be valid for 6 months after your intended date of entry on the K-1.

Things are a litle different when you're coming from Canada which is not a high fraud country when it comes to immigration - just renew it when you get back so by the time you get to your K1 interview you'll have a fresh pasport in hand which won;t need to be renewed for a while.

Thank you for the advice. I will for sure have it ready for the interview. We are still at the begining process, putting our stuff together to get things started. I just wanted to make sure they would let me in :)
