Approved--but have to go back to London Embassy?

Ok so my Fiancée had her appointment on 9 June and except for having 2 interviews everything else seemed ok and she was told she was approved.

(She mentioned she had to do her fingerprints several times but they both thought it had finally worked)

Well today she got an email and a phone call from the Younger American guy who does the interviews and he says that everything is still in order EXCEPT the fingerprint scanner didn't capture her fingerprints.

He now says she has to travel back to London to redo the fingerprints. A very big hassle, BUT the main issue is that the ONLY photo ID she has is her passport which the Embassy has.

Does anyone know of any other way to get into the Embassy without photo ID? (He did say she would be on a VIP list and would not have to queue with everyone else)

She has no drivers license.

Of course she has bank cards, national insurance card and birth certificate.

Any help or suggestions?

I would suggest she asks them.

Not all UK DL's have photo's.

They do now I believe; the paper ones got phased out.

Contacting them directly is probably best.

They are being phased out but only on renewal so many people do not yet have a photo card license. The paper ones are valid until the holder's 70th birthday so if you don't change address or name or lose your license etc. then you don't need to renew and can keep the paper version.

My proper one would have still been valid if I had not lost it.

She wrote them back so hopefully they will have some suggestions. She has her birth certificate and the email they sent. I also have a color copy of her passport if that might help.

Fingers crossed... sucks though paying an extra £100 for her to take the train just for her fingerprints.

Did she also ask if there was an alternative to spending £100 to come back? ...as in any way to alternatively capture fingerprints for them. What if it doesn't work again?

Then they will ask her to come to London again.

The only alternative is if there is a US consulate office nearer to her.

DH and I were re-telling the story (again) to co-workers about the number of times he had to be printed during his immigration journey. At each step the technician had difficulty capturing his prints. We made four trips for biometrics to our nearest USCIS sub-office (75 miles away) during the 2 years it took his green card to process. They had his prints, but they wanted them again because of expirations. The last time we went, the previous set of prints were just a couple of months old.

The machines are pretty high tech and a competent technician should be able to tell if they have a good capture.

Our journey together on this earth has come to an end.

I will see you one day again, my love.

When I did my CC app, they could tell whether the prints were good, gave a percentage read out and it had to hit a minimum.

Unless the fingerprint machines have been upgraded since Sept last year London only has the same sort of fingerprint capture machine as they have an airport POE. You just lay your fingers and thumb flat and they are scanned like on a photocopier.

The fingerprint capture for the biometrics appointments at USCIS were considerably more sophisticated and the technician rolls each of your fingers around on it while capturing the print and you can both see straight away on the computer screen its connected to the areas that are not captured properly, they're highlighted in red and the thing tells you when it considers a print has failed and has to be redone. I had to go back a second time and I saw for myself the difference between the first and second times as the first time I had a lot of dry and broken skin and the second time I had moisturised my hands daily and had much healthier skin so there were much less errors and rescanning required.
