I-751 September 2014 Filers

My wife lost her wallet including her green card after we filed for I-751. We are planning to go out of the country next month but since she lost her expired green card, we made an appointment with local USCIS office and explained the situation and she received a stamp on her passport I-551. We asked the officer if it’s okay to travel with I-551 the recommendation was that we do not travel while pending I-751. That being said, from my research I-551 is like a passport which will allow you to be admitted back to USA from over sea travel. As of last week, my wife received her I-751 was approved and now she will be travelling with the green card.

As side note, I don’t care what everyone says, losing a green card in the future will not only be costly but way too much hassle. Maybe just carry a copy and keep the real one at safe place.

Has anyone experienced running into trouble by not carrying the green card?

Congratulations on your wife's approved application! I agree. I've been through so much hassle because of the lost green card. We had to make many trips to the local USCIS office and the DMV just to get my driver license re-issued. All those trips make me take time off work to solve the issue. The officer that I asked twice confirmed with me that the I-551 serves as a green card, and I'd have no problem. It's just the RFE makes me really paranoid. All of this paperwork + school + work really stress me out.

I called USCIS over two weeks ago and a tier 1 officer created service request for me. Yesterday I got a letter saying something like "Vermont center is processing October applications. Your case is still in initial stages of adjudication. Call us again if you don't hear from us within 60 days". What kind of response is this? This tells me the same thing I see on my case status page. Should I call them again or wait for 60 days?

I called USCIS over two weeks ago and a tier 1 officer created service request for me. Yesterday I got a letter saying something like "Vermont center is processing October applications. Your case is still in initial stages of adjudication. Call us again if you don't hear from us within 60 days". What kind of response is this? This tells me the same thing I see on my case status page. Should I call them again or wait for 60 days?

1. They are working on OCT cases which means that they somehow missed yours???

2. They just started working on OCT cases this week, which means you are past the processing times for your case.

You are with divorce waiver and I believe they are making you wait just so your /-\$$ can fry and you can feel the heat from dealing with immigration.

I guess you can wait for a week or two, but after 2 weeks I will be calling them again for sure

Thank you for your response! I will call them again in 2 weeks and ask for tier 2 officer this time. Hopefully that will get me somewhere. They haven't even sent me an RFE so I am not sure what's causing the delay.

I put in a revive request at the end of March and just last week when I was able to get to a tier two officer, she said they'll reply my service request and two days ago, I received a letter saying that my case is still pending consideration and that they cannot give me a timeframe for when they'll complete the review.

So you see you're not alone. Let's be hopeful. For me I believe God has a purpose for occurrences in our lives.

For all the folks that have unfortunately received an RFE, did you hire a lawyer to file your 751 or did file yourself.

I would appreciate inputs.

It depends on your budget. We just sent out our document package to respond to the RFE without consulting a lawyer. We couldn't afford one and don't see the need to. We've also been through without a lawyer from K-1 visa thanks largely to visajourney community. However, we don't know our result yet, so we keep our fingers crossed. Wish you the best!

Did you call with your spouse speaking to them with you? I don't know if it was a coincidence. The first 2-year green card, they processed my case 2 months late compared to the normal 6-month time frame, so we gave them a call. My husband almost screamed to them on the phone (not on purpose; his voice is just loud), and I remembered they sent us the green card a week or two after the phone call. :dancing:
