You might be right, so long as Portugal don't react to their first game defeat the way Croatia just did. ;)

Mexico will make much tougher opposition for Croatia in that final game than Cameroon did today. And I actually think Portugal will react to their first round defeat much in the same way Spain did today, really I do. U.S. to get a deserved draw for my money, and, with the thigh-slapping, oompas hammering Ghana, Ronaldo & co to be leaving on the same flight as the Spanish.

Croatia were robbed by Brazil in their first game, Mexico relied on a stellar game by their keeper to get their draw. I think Mexico will get veritably thumped by Croatia in the next game.

And I don't think Portugal will fold like a cheap pack of cards again in this tournament.

What are our predictions for the score today?

I'm sticking lots of cider in the fridge and going for a 2-1 win for England.

This WC has got Mexico '86 written all over it for England: lose the first game; draw the second; and sneak through to the knockout phase by winning the third. So based on that theory, I'm going 1-1.

That game last night was a pile of carp. We need to get on the same plane as the Spanish and cry together. Why do we watch England?? Some sort of masochism, must be.

I don't know. As a Pompey supporter, it's about on a par with my recent everyday footballing experience.

We are shite. Get Gerrard, Rooney, Lampard, Baines etc out of the squad now and start building for the next WC. The Euro's are too soon.

Couldn't agree more. Already thinking ahead, and came up with this starting XI for the first game of Euro 2016:

Hart*

Clyne

Stones

Cahill

Shaw

Barkley

Lallana

Henderson**

Sterling

Rodriguez

Rooney***

*Only because right now I can't think of a viable alternative in the goalkeeper position

**See * but for the defensive midfielder position.

***Yes, I'd keep him. He's still only 28, and 40 goals in 90-odd internationals speaks for itself. Takes too much stick.

Yeah Rooney is fine against the minnows in Euro qualifying but doesn't turn up for the big games. I'd have the Ox in the side as well. Would love for a quality right back to emerge in the next two years, GJ is gash.

We've got to qualify first though, right? ;) And you will see TWO top-drawer young right-backs emerge in the next year or so. Their names are Callum Chambers and Nathaniel Clyne and they both happen to play for the same team - Southampton. Of course, it's completely inevitable that at least one of them will move on before the new season kicks off, but trust me, they're both class and MILES better than Johnson!!!

Oh btw, on an entirely different note, I took some time to read excerpts from your blog a little earlier; it's funny how we all seem to have a single friend that, despite being wholly incapable of forming a relationship with anything other than his hand, is very quick to trash-talk relationships such as ours.
