One can't help but notice that a lot of the threads on this forum seem to deviate from their original subject matter onto a football path. I got to thinking that some of said threads original authors/other participants might not appreciate that, so I figured I'd start a thread dedicated to the beautiful game.

So, to who's mast do you nail your colours? I'm a Southampton fan, and have been since witnessing my first game as a 7-year-old in 1978 (which probably goes a long way to explaining why my hair is prematurely grey and falling out).

Oh, and annoyingly, I think Argentina are going to steamroll their way to World Cup glory.

Well said!

Liverpool for life. YNWA. I will miss Anfield when I go, but plenty of memories of being there with my Da. Maybe next time i'll come back it will have grown.

England's semi final defeat at Italia 90 was the first match to make me cry. I was 7 years old. England have been making me cry ever since.

I surprised her with a proposal in Los Angeles, and this is how it went down!

Ah, Liverpool - every Saints fan's least favourite team right now. ;) You've already got Lambert, and Lallana & Lovren are slated to follow, both having made it clear to the Saints hierarchy that they want the move (although only Lovren has had the bollocks to hand in a transfer request with Lallana presumably not wanting to jeapordise his "loyalty" bonus). Seriously though, whilst we might be a bit irked at Lallana & Lovren, nobody begrudges Rickie his chance to play for his boyhood team and bring his family home - that's the stuff dreams are made of. And I'm sure he'll prosper under Brendan Rogers. He's a far, far better technical player than he's given credit for, and, seeing as he's never had any pace to lose in the first place, that great leveler - the loss of "a yard of pace" - doesn't factor in here. Point being, he may be 32, but there's no reason he can't play at Premiership level for another 5 or 6 years at least.

I remember Italia '90 like it was yesterday - shame we've come nowhere close since. And after Saturday's showing, quite frankly, I can't see anything changing anytime soon.

This could be a thread within a thread, but what has world cup coverage been like where you are? I'm surprised that in New York City everyone loves it and its played everywhere, even bars opening early for it. I don't know if this is because Americans in general are more excited about the world cup this time around, or because so many people in New York have roots elsewhere. What do you think?

Oh and in terms of teams, I'm not a devout supporter by any means but my family and friends would shun me for life if I didn't say Newcastle are my team. And they are usually pretty, pretty, pretty disappointing.

If you ever can't sleep record Iran V Nigeria and watch it and you'll be out like a light. Why couldn't these ####### teams be in our group!

I'll see your disappointing and I'll raise you Shakespearean Tragedy. I'm a Pompey supporter. :(

We may have won more than you in the recent past, but we've also been relegated more than anyone else.

Just caught up on the day's action. And, Iran v Nigeria aside, what a cracking day's action it was. The krauts look frighteningly good (although tbf, Portugal were gash) and they'll go a long way, much to my extreme annoyance (I'm sorry, I'm generally not an overly-nationalistic individual, but the World Cup turns me into a raging "Little Englander.")

And what can I say about the USA? That was BEYOND gutsy. Absolute kudos to them. In terms of possession and chances created you could (justifiably) argue that Ghana deserved something from the game and I'm sure they will feel hard done by, but who would deny the U.S. players their moment in the sun (and, indeed, humidity).

Love the World Cup!

Well done to the US, still can't see them beating either of the other two though.

I don't hate Germany, I dislike France, and hate Argentina. Scotland I just feel sorry for

Actually, I have a feeling that the US are gonna beat Portugal - or at least nick a draw - and go through behind the sausage-munchers in second spot.

I think that also, I reckon they will get out of the group stages and thought that before they won yesterday.

Brazil v Mexico - proof, it were needed, that not all 0-0 draws are of the dull variety! Just bought tickets for the USA "viewing party" (USA v Portugal on Sunday) down at the Kansas City Power & Light District bash. Should be fun.

And on the domestic front, seems like Ronald Koeman is the new man in the Saints' hot-seat - that'll do. At least our free-kicks should become the envy of the Premiership!!!

You might be right, so long as Portugal don't react to their first game defeat the way Croatia just did. ;)
