Naples Interview

I just wanted to share with everyone that my husband will be leaving for Napoli this afternoon and will start the medical/interview process tomorrow. I (the petitioner) won't be going with him as our 4 yr old daughter is sick and taking antibiotics, so I'll be home with my little princess. Although we've gone through this before (used direct consular filing in 2008 and was approved) I'm pretty nervous. I've checked all the documents a ridiculous amount of times. I have them separated into folders: I-864 packet (includes my and co-sponsors info), medical folder, and then a folder including all the documentation requested for the interview...and of course all the supporting docs for everything. Everything is labled with a tab so my husband doesn't have to search through every paper to find the right one but just read the tab. I wrote at least 20 emails to office in Napoli during this process and printed and attached them to each relevant document. I feel that I can't send my husband off any more prepared but I still have this feeling that I'm forgetting something. I've even included extra copies of everything in case the first copies get ruined somehow.

The DS-260 is only filled out by him right? The beneficiary? I'm the US citizen and my daugher has dual citizenship (we got her certificate of birth abroad and US passport done a couple of years ago-I included them along with copies of them in the folders I'm sending with my husband)

Do you think me not being present for the interview will look bad?? I can't bring my little one while she's sick!

I feel sick! I hope I remembered everything! Jeez, I even drew a map for my husband from the hotel to the consulate....it's 500 meters away!! That's just silly.

Also, we were forced to buy plane tickets already. We had a very limited budget for tickets and I found ond day, ONE DAY, that was within that budget. It's the 25th of June. Anything before or after was double the price. I had to grab it or we would have been waiting until September to leave and we just can't wait that long. I emailed Napoli asking if they thought we'd get his passport back by then (we'd need it maximum 7 days after interview which would be the 24th). They said as long as everything went smoothly, yes. Generally it arrives precisely 7 days (5 business days) from the day it's approved...IF approved. We're cutting it pretty close....my head's going to explode.

There was little point to this post. Just feeling nervous and wanted to express it I guess. I'll make sure to write a detailed review of the process as soon as he returns. Others' reviews have been EXTREMELY helpful for me.

We did the interview in Naples last November and I think he is going to be fine. Even though I was with, I was useless at the interview as everything was directed towards him. His passport arrived 2 days after the interview (we chose to pick it up at the closest office but I have heard of others that it didn't take longer for house delivery). If you are worried, when they tell him that he has passed, he can always pick it up the day AFTER in Naples but would have to ask specifically to do this.

Hope all goes well!

Well I emailed Naples yesterday and they confirmed that it was just fine for him to be there by himself...thank goodness. He called me while he was in line at the embassy, ready to enter, and tells me he was talking to a couple and that we forgot something...I could have died hearing this! He told me about the new immigrant visa fee of $165. So in my sleepy haze (I had gone back to bed after talking with him earlier in the morning) I looked it up and realized it's the fee I read about that you pay AFTER receiving your card. Why would you pay before? What if (God forbid) they deny you! I read they don't do refunds. I took a very long time preparing everything to send my husband off with everything he needed and organized it all in an obsessively orderly fashion, so when he said "well everyone but you seems to know about this" I could have reached through the phone and strangled him! Uggggg, MEN! So after my memory of the fee was refreshed by a quick internert search I reassured him that we didn't need to pay it before the interview and, in fact, we basically had a year to pay it and that it wouldn't keep us from entering the U.S. I would really like to be able to go back to sleep and stay in bed until he called and said "APPROVED!" but I'm awake now...sheesh.

I will say that his medical visit went quite smoothly though yesterday. He was the very first one in so he was out by 9:30am! Sweet! Let's hope he has the same luck today....

Heehee, I am in same shoes as you are now. :goofy: This man, your husband, reminded me of Italian men snowbirding in South Florida and my Sicilian friend, who tend to fuss over no-big-deal issues. Its their nature.

For my case I would say WOMAN when my wife, who is profoundly Deaf Filipina, was saying lot of "But, but." She was having hesitation to schedule (buying air fare ticket) for medical examination. All because of her monthly period is pretty much overdue. At St. Luke Extension Clinic (the only authorized facility recognized by State Department in the Philippines) it is recommend to have medical exam 1 week after last day of menstruation.

Her recent flying to meet me in Manila (Philippines) with our son for CRBA + US Passport and DCF with USCIS at US Embassy Manila might have to do messing up her normal menstruation cycle. Well, she scared me saying she might be pregnant. PREGNANT, how this can be since her ovulation date,15 days after her first day of menstruation has passed! Last night I reach resolution, when talking with God, that I am readily accepting second child. Now this morning (her night) she tells me she feels she might have her period pretty soon. Ugrh, to have menstruation or not is twice or thrice agony but her inaction of long wait enough for me not to see her get ready for interview day, meaning bumping special day for another week.

And, being suggestive I initially propose medical/interview within same time frame, with a day or two spacing apart from each other. This will save out money aside pleasing our 3 1/2 years old Fil-Am son from thinking he's "abandon" :clock: (last time he admitted to hospital, ir was case of lovesick :crying: and fasting :sleepy: which resulted in UTI and body weight loss). But while my wife just pointed out, "What if I flunk my medical exam?"; "The interview might have to be postponed;" and "I am feeling weak." Urgh! She is healthy like a bull, but lately she have digestive issue that she need to seek a doctor. Really, all she need to do is getting well rest (lot of it) and getting enough vitamins and minerals, e.g. eating and supplement, and be stress-free.

General things in VJ is Do-It-Yourself site which we all would help, giving advices, pointers and tips. I would like to think those law practitioners-for-paid and legal guide (the navigator-for-hired) out there: those who might like us not to perform DIY but letting them do all legal paperworks, pretending s/he know the best route for shortcut or else to apply jurisdiction, e.g. under the table, are merely fable and cannot stop us. This is information age we are living. WE all have same knot to tie, same kind of anxiety, same kind of sweat, of facing judgmental day whether CO grant our visa or not. If you do what we did you will achieve nothing less but pride in your accomplishment.

Question for you: will you be willing go through all navigating to learn and study trial and errors of others and then apply toward your pathway to get U.S. visa? Even this means making feedback or giving input from your candid observation.
