I had my interview in the Dublin embassy on Thurs but the embassy never returned my original birth cert or my daughters. I cant remember what other original docs we submitted. She did return my marriage cert. Does anyone know if you can contact the embassy to get them returned?

01/18/2013 Received /signed for

01/23/2013 email NOA1

01/29/2013 NOA1 Hardcopy Rec

Palomino,

Original and certified documents are not normally returned, unless requested at the interview or soon after. If going for a K1 or other visa which requires certified documents at the interview, rather than to the NVC earlier, it is recommended to take certified and extra photocopy, to show the certified, then leave the photocopy for thier file.

No I believe it is normal for them to be returned, they just forgot Id say

I guess my case was strange. My originals were not returned. I did ask for them and they said NO.

I had to file form G-884 when I got to the US to have my documents returned. I got everything back intact.


N400


Filing based on 3yrs/USC Spouse. 3 year residency anniversary is in August 2014. Filed immediately after the 90-day early filing mark (May 2014)


05/06/2014 - Mailed N-400

05/15/2014 - Check cashed

05/12/2014 - NOA Date

06/11/2014 - Biometrics Appointment

09/15/2014 - Inline for interview scheduling (was stuck in "Initial Review" for over 3 months!)

10/27/2014 - Scheduled for interview

12/01/2014 - Interview

12/19/2014 - I AM A US CITIZEN!

If you took photocopies to trade for them and ASKED for them, your original "certified copies" would have been returned. You would not have had in your possession an "original" birth certificate for anybody. Those are held by the agency that can issue certified copies. You might find it more efficient to simply request new certified copies, as what was in the file is now in the sealed envelope you'll carry with you and hand over when you enter the USA. The Consular IV unit doesn't have them anymore.
