Can someone share their experience from an oath ceremony that has been passed recently? I wanted to know if there is an interview - do they ask any other questions - does the person who is going to collect the certificate needs to provide any document?

There is no second interview, that happens before the oath.

You will need to hand back your greencard.

I did my oath ceremony March 2013.

They take your form and you go through security....You then are sent to sit down. They give you a form to fill, with simple questions like....have you been abroad since your interview....have you changed your name or got married since your interview....

Your family is sent to wait in the 'ceremony room' at the back....

You stay in seating order and file line by line into the room....there's a US flag and a 'welcome ' book...

You watch a movie, an officer makes a welcome speech,a movie of Mr Obama welcomes you as a new citizen... Lots of cheers and applause..

They tell you how many people are from each country...I was the only one from the UK.

Lots of people get emotional, You file out line by line, and collect your naturalization certificate.

All in all, a very nice day!!! :)

Old and Grumpy....But an American Citizen!!!

Every ceremony requires certain questions to be asked at check-in so they know if anything changed since the interview...like arrests for example. They have to make sure you are still eligible. Then the experience will depend on your local office.

With almost 2000 new immigrants representing over 100 countries at the ceremony, check-in spanned several hours at about 20 stations at our ceremony. There was no individual introduction or naming of countries. Immigrants sat anywhere they wanted and with their families in upper and lower level seating. At check-in, a color coded slip was given to each immigrant and dismissal was by color to stagger exit back to the same check-in table where the immigrant started, to pick up the certificate. Very large and impersonal in a big city.

You need the invitation letter and your GC. Ceremonies are very different, I had mine in a small town close to where I lived. Took 3 hours in total. Mife wife had hers downtown Manhattan and it only took 1 hour.

I had my oath ceremony last week in Lowell, MA.

There were 623 people from 90 countries. The letter said to show up at 10 am but this is not when the actual ceremony started. The doors opened at 10 and then all the people had to be checked in which took almost 2 hrs , then we waited another half an hour for the judge. Seats where assigned, they had all the certificates organized beforehand based on where everyone was sitting . Once the judge showed up it took maybe 40 minutes.
