They have just showed them all, which one do you think he could have saved?

There was one where he was all laying on the ground. I think he could have gotten up quicker and at least tried.

Then a goalie is not responsible for any goal scored. If he dives and misses, it's not his fault. If he tips it and it goes in, it's not his fault. If he gets faked out, it's not his fault. If he doesn't even move and just turns his head as the ball goes whizzing by, it's not his fault.

Honestly, I don't know which ones he could have saved, but I saw dozens and dozens of great saves in this tournament and I saw several outstanding performances by goalies too. IMO, he laid a big egg today along with the rest of his teammates. I know when it was 5-0, Germany had 9 shots on goal. I don't see how you can possibly think that he played well, but I admit, I am a n00b to the sport and only post what I observe. I am sure that poor defense had a lot to do with it too, but at the end of the day, he has to stop some of those shots.

There was also one where he didn't move and it went right past him, and it looked like it was within arms reach. I'm not looking to argue, I thought the guy sucked along with the rest of team.

The one where was he was laying on the ground he had saved it once and could not get over for the second.

I have played it, I have watched for many years and many world cups, had a season ticket before I came here.

There are a couple of really good goalies, and no he is not the best and had a bad last world cup.

But on this one, his defenders did not give him any cover, how about that last one.

You could say the German keeper did not do that well as he only made a couple of saves and let one in, he did not have much to do.

I don't know how I'm supposed to look at it. I know that in the sports I'm familiar with, say ice hockey, if a goalie gives up 7 goals, he had a bad game, no ifs ands or buts about it. In football, if a team gives up 42 points while scoring 3. their defense had a horrible game. If Tom Brady throws four interceptions and three of them are returned for touchdowns, I don't see how I can say that he had a good game. If I'm supposed to come away from this game with the impression that Cesar played well, then I have no further interest in the sport.

I was behind the goal to the right. Not my normal location, think my Dad had my Seat.

Decided to re type all this, Germany had the better rated Goalie, one of the best, would it have made any difference if they had swapped, none that I can see, the problem was lack of cohesion in the defence.

After the second goal a lot of the Brazil team seemed to give up. Germany were better, but not that much better.

The one thing I have not seen is a general slagging of the goalie.

It was a one off at this level, how/why well there will be much speculation.

It looked to me that the hype had got to the players and when the bubble burst, second goal, it was just too much. But does not answer why the defenders seemed to play with no organisation.

My local American Football team is the Broncos, nobody saw the collapse in the final coming either.

Exactly, but to say that Manning played a great game would be stretching it. The whole team played bad, just as the entire Brazil team played bad. Manning was supposed to put points on the board, Cesar was supposed to keep the ball out of the net. Neither is a one man team and neither did their job well that particular day. I agree that Brazil gave up after the second goal. What I am having trouble understanding is that you thought Cesar played well and I'm really trying to understand why you think so and what I am missing here.

I saw the Patriots bite the bullet in the AFC championship game this year too. Brady did not play well. The Patriots did not play well.

Cesar made two really good saves, one tip over the bar, the other a rush outside of the penalty.

Against quality strikers a Goalkeeper without protection should have little chance of stopping the ball. Howard had defenders in front of him that narrowed down the options, Cesar was hung out to dry.

I have watched the goals again. Good goalkeepers command their defenders, perhaps that was an issue. But we are talking about big names in front of him. Including his Captain.

I guess I saw Howard in the US/Belgian game as a duck in a shooting gallery, completely defenseless with never ending pressure. You see Cesar in a more compromising position than Howard. I've come to the conclusion that I don't understand the game or what is a good or poor performance. I have given it an honest shot and have watched as many games as possible the past few weeks in a sincere effort to learn. Again, I'm not suggesting blame on one player for the outcome of the game for Brazil, but I don't see Cesar as performing well today no matter how I look at it. If he was outstanding today, I have zero understanding of the game and the sport. I'm not being argumentative and I do appreciate your time and effort to answer my questions the past couple of weeks. I just don't get it, just as I wouldn't get it if someone said Brady played well in the AFC Championship game this year or that Manning had a great Super Bowl.

Howard had defenders who did their best despite not being of the highest quality.

Cesar had not much protection from players who did not seem to understand the basics.

I am not saying he had a great game, he did OK. He was not the reason for the disaster.

David Luiz has been sold by Chelsea to PSG for $75m, good timing! He had a horror.
