The Venezuelan son cannot qualify for a tourist visa because he cannot point to a single reason as to why he would return to that country, according to our laws. No congressman can order the CO to dole out a visa (legislative branch versus executive branch)....no amount of promises made by his relatives living here can overcome 214b (and it's pretty clear that you would make sure he never returned to Venezuela, which instantly disqualifies him for a B2 visa)....sorry...no shortcuts just because some country is in turmoil....

I find it disheartening how many people show no compassion to others who were born into less than desirable circumstances. Every normal parent wants the best opportunities for their child, this is natural. How far would YOU go to get your child a better life if you lived in a country where their very survival was at risk? How many of you move to get into good school catchment areas and away from bad neighborhoods the second you can afford to do so?

Considering an accident of birth made you a citizen of a first world country, don't be so arrogant.

I am surprised someone has not tried to take a pickaxe to the Statue of Liberty to remove its plaque...

In regards to Senators Kolh and Feingold, and Congressman Obey, a real old timer and friend. No say whatever with the NVC that is under the Department of State, that is under the executive branch. Our new Senator Johnson is not exactly sure what the NVC is and tells me our trade with China is good for his economy. Haven't tried Senator Baldwin yet.

NVC is extremely rude no matter why nice one is, and feel by calling them set our application way at the bottom of the pile. Would always get some kind of response from the presidents office, even a form letter, zero from Bush and Obama.

At time, stepson was barely over 21 so could not petition for him, wonder who came up with this law. Even with health insurance, kids are considered kids until they are 26 years of age, and practically dependents until then if attending a college. Stepson was in college at the time. Wife and especially me was more than willing to sign her condo over to him, but unfortunately, he has a very nasty father. And if aware of Venezuela laws, the man is king. Even though my wife paid for 90% of it.

How is this for a start of a letter to the US Consulate in Venezuela.

"As a US citizen, I am familiar with 8 USC Section 1324 of the US penal code with any attempts to bring an alien into this country by any means contrary to the polices dictated by both the DHS and USCIS. I am also very aware of the limits for visitation imposed by the I-94. And very familiar with the consequences of breaking these laws. I am enclosing proof of my residence in the USA."

Was ignored, even for a short visit. Besides, Chavez kicked out the US ambassador, and in turn Washington kicked out the Venezuelan ambassador. Madulo kicked out the majority of the US consulate members on the basis they were the cause of the uprising.

Its getting more and more difficult for us to send baby supplies to our grandson, most US flights to Venezuela have been cancelled, and the ticket price in Venezuela is now about ten times the US price. Just take one day at a time.

Now its bring your rich terrorists, we don't care, as long as you have plenty of money to spend here. Heck, have fun knocking down the World Trade Centers when you are here.

If you wish to pay for all of these new arrivals food, clothing, medical bills and education, by all means, zoom on down to the border and start writing checks....if you are not willing to do this, then there is little sense in castigating me because I prefer NOT to support others just because their own country is a mess.

When your wages get halved due to the massive influx of cheap labor from these countries, will we hear the same 'gee, why isn't everyone compassionate?' questions....or might we hear an entirely different tune being sung. Why is it we have visa laws and border controls? Yep...to protect the interests of the American people, not the Central American people nor any other culture outside of our borders.

I can't help you with your immigration dilemma, but I wanted to say as far as flights go I have found reasonably priced options with Insel Air-- for best prices fly to Aruba from the US and then get a flight with Insel to Venezuela. They go to some smaller cities such as Barquisimeto and Valencia, if you wanted to skip Caracas-- I don't know where your stepson lives. They also fly to Florida and North Carolina, but those flights haven't gotten more expense, and I gather there are extra taxes also.

One warning about Insel though-- their flights often run quite late. Don't book a quick connection to another airline on your own or you may miss the flight :( It happened to me on my last trip.

I kind of agree with Brit abroad-- while we may not be able to offer immigration to all of the people who might want it, we can still cultivate a compassionate attitude, and not forget that not only was our country built by immigrants, most of us have predominately immigrant ancestors, and are therefore not really in a position to be superior to modern-day immigrants...

The hordes of new arrivals won't survive on our compassion....what they want is our financial support in various ways....I'll be happy to hand them a coupon good for '8 pounds of compassion', but no dollars.

I have fought for this country - they have not. Many of you have not either. Legal immigration is one thing (assuming it is regulated); opening the flood gates to anyone is a sure route to economic upheaval.

to dawning: that letter you wrote to the consulate was, as you discovered, worthless. Why? Because of two things: (1) you have no legal authority over anyone entering the United States, and cannot force that individual to leave the country nor do anything else, save for perhaps leaving your premises....and (b) you cannot be held responsible for that same person should he 'change his mind' and stay...no one from ICE will come knocking on your door to arrest YOU....being aware of this law or that law does not mean anything towards a third party qualifying for a tourist visa....many people have tried similar letters with similar thoughts and/or promises...most met the same fate. Besides, how could any promise you make be enforced? There is NO legal mechanism in place for this to happen.

Sorry, I think you confused me the OP-- I haven't written to the consulate... I just responded with some information about airlines, and some thoughts about the historical role of immigration in the US... you might want to repost so that the person you are responding to sees it.

I just have a hard time accepting that our military men and women wait for not days or weeks but months for just an appointment to see a doctor. And they are refused basic needs. We who do immigration the right long way, have the threat looming over our heads of "will the immigrate be a public charge" yet illegals in so many states can get FREE tuition, health care, food stamps, housing, money put on the food stamp card.

Why is this? It's a crying shame. Until I see Veterans First get the so respected treatment they deserve as in they should not have to wait for nothing in care i don't have compassion. Stop that 3rd world better life mess.

Most of the kids are being shuttled here and into the highest child/sex trafficking state Texas. Mommy and Daddy back home, some of them paid off to send kids teenagers to America where they will be picked up by "Uncle Sal".

to dawning: sorry, thought you had written....to the most recent OP...spot on. America first....after all, if we as a nation and as a culture cannot (or will not) take care of our OWN first, how are we going to be better able to take care of others?

It's almost like the pre flight blather....pull your OWN oxygen mask over YOUR head/face first, then start worrying about others...if you can't breathe, you are not much use to anyone else.

HI

Guys you are mixing apples and oranges with Cubans. Cubans DO get GCs, because of the law "Wet foot, dry foot" Cuban adjustment. As long as they enter the country, however they come here. after a year and 1 day, they can adjust status, and then don't need to file an i864. After that, they bring their families

Special treatment, ufortunatley for the rest of us. I live in Miami, which is Cuban land

And yet we can't have Cuban cigars.

Aren't you the one that could have had the son come on a K-2 visa if you had gotten a K-1 visa, but instead your lawyer told you to do AOS from a tourist visa, leaving the kid behind?

it was more twisted -

there was a tourist visa but they NOT file AOS

then chased after a K-1 (I think)

but the kid was in country (as I recall) during that tourist visa stay with his mom.

that's what i recall - without using the advanced search tool.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Thought this section of the board was US citizens trying to bring family members to America. I am a natural born US citizen that was drafted to serve my country in a time of war, served honorably and am a veteran of a foreign war. And I have one family member that I would love to bring here. Well cognizant that its a privilege, just happened to meet a woman beyond my most wildest dreams that wasn't born here. And with two children.

I signed that I-864, paid for all of their medical lab tests and vaccinations and supported my wife and stepdaughter. And wanted to do the same for my stepson. Matter of fact, we are still supporting him and our grandson.

Not asking for any special favors, but they say it doesn't hurt to ask, so far the answers we received hurt. Fully prepared to support my stepson and grandson, and hope to get them settled on there own. Stepson just happens to be a professional architect that does not want to participate with the current government. We advise him strongly to stay quiet, they kill people down there or put them in fifty prisons.

My wife and stepdaughter and I wanted to be together, we did kick around, me going down to Venezuela, but very well established here and was a unanimous vote. They are now, very much Americans, and also paying taxes through the nose like the rest of us. We were under the impression that my stepson could come here two years later. Now its well over ten years.

Reading some very negative comments, easy to do behind the safety or your computer, not so easy face to face. Reason why I posted this in the first place was knowledge of how other people are coming here and that same government that I have response to them. A bit disheartening.
