Getting Drivers License

My wife entered US on K3 recently and I want to get her a drivers license. Listed under ID requirements on the MVD website is passport with visa and I-94. Does anyone know if K3 is one of the visas they accept or will she have to wait until her work authorization card arrives?

Thanks!

What she needs is her social security number.

I came to the US on a J1 visa last year, and passed my driving license in NC without any problems. Because you work/do an internship on a J1 you get you SSN, so as soon as you have it, go ahead.

You can also give a call to your local DMV and see what papers they require, oh and pick up the driving rules liflets while you're there too so she can start studiing it.

Every state is different, New York requires the I-94 to be valid for more than 1 year, so in my case my fiancee will need either EAD or Green card before she can get a driver's license.

Most states if they do accept I-94 with periods less than 1 year, will set drivers license expiration as the same expiration date of the I-94.

Also most, if not all states need a SSN, and K-3 can only get SSN after getting EAD or Green Card.

Dependant on state again, but if your wife is here on K3, it may be possible for her to drive on her home country passport until she gets her EAD or GC.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Just thought i would add my experience for GA.

I got my learners permit with my passport/visa and my social secuirty number but then I was told i needed an I94 to get my actual license, and i told them i had a CR1 and my visa was in my passport. They sent turned me away then i checked out what they said and tried again and they gave me a drivers license eventually (it was an error on their part). The problem is that i have still not got my permanent resident card so my licvense was only vaild for the duration of that temp visa. Now i am still waiting on my permanent resident card and my license has expired.
