N-400 questions - Tax transcript, 90 day rule, Part 7A

Hi everyone,

I'm getting ready to start my N-400 journey and have a few questions:

1 - What is the tax transcript they're looking for?

Is it the Tax Return Transcripts? I found out that they can be downloaded online. If so, is that enough? Or should they be mailed in a sealed envelope from the IRS?

2 - Regarding the 90 day point rule. I'm applying as a resident for the past 3 years based on a marriage to a US citizen

- Part 7. A: I spent 72 days outside the US in the past 5 years

Should I total the days outside the US in the past 3 years instead? Since I'm applying based on the 3 year residency? Or keep it for 5 years?

Also, should I deduct 72 days spent outside the US from 90 days point rule? Meaning that I can apply 18 days before the 3 year residency anniversary, or is it ok to still apply 90 days before the anniversary?

You can send the transcripts you download from the IRS website. Very convenient!

You can still apply 90 days before your anniversary date if you have also been married to the same person for 3 years. Not a day earlier!
