I wasn't thinking about renewing passport because I am going to get my citizenship here. So if il renew my passport, how long will I get it?

Judy

Check out the processing time in the website of the Philippine consulate that has jurisdiction over your state: http://www.philippineembassy-usa.org/philippines-dc/consulate-finder-dc/

-It's typically 6-8 weeks. But some mentioned they received their renewed passport faster than the published processing time.

The procedure is outlined on the embassy website as well. For example in DC PH embassy: http://www.philippineembassy-usa.org/philippines-dc/consular-services-dc/faq-dc/#renewal

A Philippine passport is valid for five years from the date of issue.

:secret:Greenbaum, OP came in on a IR1/CR1 visa. Their MC is with NSO already even before she came here.

Unless her MC is in her maiden name and she wishes to have the passport issued using her husband's surname? I might be incorrect.

See the thread underneath yours, a renewal or name change now requires an in person appearance at the Consulate/Embassy with jurisdication over your area...unless you attend an outreach closer to you if distance is an issue for you Yan.

Edit: Sorry Yan, I thought you were asking how long the passport is good (for)...the other posters have more correct information if that's not you were asking.

IR1/CR1s renew their passport in PH using their married name before NVC stage, as far as I know. Their visas are issued in their married name as well. :)

Yes, you can actually renew your passport in any PH consulate, Yan. Best to check out each PH consulate's scheduled outreach program to see if there's any close to your area.

My passport has amendment in it to my husband's lastname. But my husband died 4 years ago. They are not going to ask me that , right? I just need to renew my passport in a smooth way.

Sorry to hear about that, Yan. :( No, as far as I know, they don't ask personal stuff. and even if they do, it's immaterial to the requirements for renewing your passport. As long as you complete all the required docs, you should be fine.

Yep, good information.

I guess I was just trying to distinguish the difference between a straight up renewal or a renewal involving a name change. She could have kept her maiden name upon marriage (but now wishes to take her husband's surname) so yes, their MC would reflect the name recorded on it...maiden or otherwise. I know she's not asking specifically about a name change proceedure, just wanted to point that out. Sorry if I've provided contradictory information here...not my intent.

Either renew at the Embassy/Consulate in your jurisdiction, attend an outreach that is close to you, or renew your passport in the Philippines seems to be the options.

(Not trying to raise any hackles)

My passport expired already so I can't renew it in the Philippines. Il try to call them and maybe il fly to go to California to renew my passport. I wish we have a consulate here in Texas but ugh we have to spend a ton of money just for that :(

Yeah, I checked too if they have published any consular outreach in Texas, seems like none in the near future. Probably worth to give them a call first and inquire about this before booking a flight to LA.

Hi Yan,

I'm unable to cut/paste the website so I'll type it:

http://philippineconsulatela.org/PRs%202014/009-2014PR-%202014%20Indicative%20Calendar%20of%20Consular%20Outreach%20Activities.pdf

Hopefully it will work. If you can wait until September, their are outreach programs in both Houston and Dallas.
