I don't agree, I think everyone knows what is and isn't going to be acceptable. We may or may not agree with what is against TOS, but we know when we are doing something that crosses the line. Sometimes we do it to be provocative, sometimes we do it to make a point to the mod team, but we do KNOW when something is not going to pass the TOS, if we don't, we need to grow up a bit.

One term that you used frequently is now filtered. Are you saying that you knew it was inappropriate and used it anyway? My guess is no one thinks it's offensive, but suddenly it is filtered. Try using the nickname for Richard. Is that offensive when it's actually someone's name? And now some body parts are filtered no matter what the context. I don't think it has anything to do wit he user base growing up. I think it's idiotic that words used in elementary school classes are not family friendly here. We see and hear far worse on the news everyday.

I once worked at a company where the IT department tagged the word "erection" as a trigger that would consign the email to the bin of spam.

There was only one, eensy-weensy problem, however. In the construction industry, erection is the technical term for what to do with steel and precast concrete, when you want them to go from the pieces of a giant Meccano set to an actual building.

If you show a well thought-out reason to change IT policy on certain words, like losing tens of millions of dollars on a building contract, it's amazing what "dirty" words can suddenly be permitted again.

I am well aware that I have used non friendly terminology in the past. I have no idea what word you are referring to in this post, but I am sure I was aware that it could have been interpreted as non family friendly whether I agreed with that or not. The same is true with the body parts issue. Most of the time these words are being filtered because they have been used incessantly in an inappropriate fashion. As no can ensure that these words will not be abused, they have been removed. We all know this and knowing this the grown up thing to do is ensure we post appropriately. That is what I mean by acting like a grown up. You can continue to fight the good fight or you can accept the fact that because some words have been abused they can no longer be used and move forward.

I don't agree with all the words that have been withdrawn from normal use but I know why they have been and I don't need to keep testing every word just to see if it passes the test AND more importantly, using these words will not get you into trouble UNLESS you try to circumvent the system and knowingly use words you know have been removed from circulation by adding spaces or whatever other way people have tried to get around it in the past. Therefore, if this is the only thing you have to get upset about you got nothing really.
