no, maven is gegel and novembro. not penny. penny is actually nature boy's account, he uses it when he's feeling feminine.

So I lie to log in as Penny to rain abuse and condemnation down on my NB personality ? Interesting ?

Oh yes I would for sure be white and despite the words you use, you are going to be black. Maybe it's different in other regions but you can always tell down here. I don't know why you automatically assume being black would prevent you from getting a job. Please don't quote that flawed white felon study

when I took over as plant manager in my last job I fired the white maintenance guy and I hired a guy that just happened to be black in his place. Best hire I ever made. The world is not as anti-black as you think

Screw that. It comes from experience and advice from my friends and family. You should have heard my mother and uncle. They called about 30 minutes before and were grilling me like I was 17. Use big words, make sure you pronounce everything properly, don't use any type of slang or short form term of speech.

You have to understand. I've seen this. Folks that love you on paper, but once you walk in the door, the demeanor changes. Every single co worker here over the age of 40 has a few stories to tell. Using middle names, having so many degrees you can't say no, every trick in the book to help get you in the door. I want my expertise to speak for me, not my skin color.

But Marvin that applies to all people. Of course you want to be coached on sounding professional over the phone, of course they may love you on paper and not like you in person. It happens all the time to all of us

I am routinely asked to go through resumes and pass on the 'promising' ones to my manager. I am aware of a few biases I have, which I do apply to the process. Fortunately for the candidates, my decision to pass over a resume isn't sufficient to keep that resume out of the right hands. There are others involved as well.

One of my biases when I was hiring was having had 8 or 9 jobs in 11 years.

I read

I wish I could interview in person, that way if they've got a negative outlook I can turn it around.

Look, this is my job. To fight racial injustice. If you keep promoting racial harmony, I'll be out of work.

Until I went to sensitivity training I thought harass was two words

Sadly despite the fact you jest, this is a large part of why we have so much strife today

Oh trust, there are a few out there that see it no matter what it is. I try to give folks the benefit of the doubt before I scream out racism. But some things, you just know what's up. Guess that comes from growing up the way I did.
