Can I volunteer?

While waiting for EAD (and post EAD), can one do unpaid volunteering? I'm hoping to volunteer for an animal shelter while waiting for EAD.

You can volunteer at the animal shelter.

What you can't do is volunteer for a position that is normally a paid position or with a potential future employer. This prevents the AOS applicant from working illegally and exploitation of new immigrants by shady employers.

Of course you can my hubby and I volunteered quiet a bit while waiting for his EAD and at an animal shelter too.. He found it very calming for his stress while waiting for his card
