I am in favor of an assault weapons ban as a small part of a very comprehensive gun control program. Harpa gave you an extensive list of things that should at the very least be considered, if not implemented. You didn't like that list and you made it clear that you are not ready for any significant changes to help curb gun deaths, so there's really no sense in going any further.

Exactly. I agree. I would favor an assault weapons ban as well but I see a lot of other measures that could be taken and if those were taken without including a ban on assault weapons, I would still be supportive. I'm not nearly as fixated on the issue of an assault weapons ban as NB and the rest of the "they're coming for our guns" crowd. But then, I'm also not advocating the banning of hand, feet and cars...

Well Pistols and shotguns were by far the weapon of choice in the majority of Mass Killings. So tell us again why you with to ban weapons that look like assault rifles . There is no logical reason to support any conclusion tat it would accomplish anything

Glocks and shotguns were used in more mass shootings. You are picking a gun that kills les people than all otehrs types, yet you want to ban it. No logical reason

Not I Spooks. Never said anything of the sort. I used an AR-15 as an example in the other thread of the types of military weapons that should be banned, but never called for banning it all by itself.

You're from MA, so you're a liberal. Liberals are anti gun. If people want to ban certain guns, why not the ones that kill the most people?

Ahh, I forgot the liberal Masshole logic.

If I were anti-gun, I would want all guns banned and be done. But I'm not, so the problem is much more complex than just banning the guns that kill the most people. Assault weapons serve no purpose in a civilized society, so why not remove them from the equation for starters. Then from there we can impliment a stringent gun control program that deals with background checks, mental health problems and economic issues, all which play a major role in the gun problem. There is no quick and easy fix to this problem.

Well to be fair.. Have you ever heard of the anti-gun right. There are some. I think the postmaster was very anti-gun, but slightly right. I don't think it is unfair to say banning AR-15's is a darling issue of the left, as Pro-life and prayer in school are darlings issues of the right. I think it is very fair to say the Anti-gun left. Is every anti-gun person a liberal democrat. NO., but the majority to be sure

The term assault weapon is a legal term and has a definition that is accepted in US law. If you want to think otherwise, that's certainly your choice.
