Why the Anti-Gun left prevents sensible Gun Control

Here's the issue:

Whenever someone asks this question, why do you feel the need to own an AR-15, this is where the fear starts. I know this because Teddy was the last person to ask and it started a storm of comments. Gun advocates feel that the 2nd Amendment means they can own whatever they want in terms of firearms because there's nothing detailing a limit to what type of gun you can have within the Constitution.

For NB, if you want to have a sensible talk about gun control, maybe use better language than Anti-Gun left or right. You might get somewhere.

Also, here's a better question. Why are the family members of victims of gun violence never asking for more guns? It's always the folks who don't suffer stockpiling weapons, never the people whose lives have been devastated by some lunatic or a criminal wielding a gun. And when they ask for more gun control, some insensitive jerk has to remind them about the 2nd Amendment and frame their comments around the person's slain family members. Because that's just the right thing to do...

Why do you fear an AR-15 .... It is not the choice of weapon down in the hood.

If more citizens were armed, criminals would think twice about attacking them, Detroit Police Chief James Craig

Florida currently has more concealed-carry permit holders than any other state, with 1,269,021 issued as of May 14, 2014

The liberal elite ... know that the people simply cannot be trusted; that they are incapable of just and fair self-government; that left to their own devices, their society will be racist, sexist, homophobic, and inequitable -- and the liberal elite know how to fix things. They are going to help us live the good and just life, even if they have to lie to us and force us to do it. And they detest those who stand in their way."

Well to be fair.. Have you ever heard of the anti-gun right. There are some. I think the postmaster was very anti-gun, but slightly right. I don't think it is unfair to say banning AR-15's is a darling issue of the left, as Pro-life and prayer in school are darlings issues of the right. I think it is very fair to say the Anti-gun left. Is every anti-gun person a liberal democrat. NO., but the majority to be sure

You have still failed to describe what exactly you mean by an 'anti-gun' person. I also think you are way off the mark if you think that it's an issue confined to those who vote for the Democratic party. More than half of US households do not have a gun owner in them. Does that mean that all these households vote for Democratic candidates? That would frankly astonish me. It seems to me that you have created some 'anti-gun' demons, or believe the hype that these demons exist. Most people who favor some form of action on gun violence are not rabid lefties, nor do they want to take the guns away from everyone. It's a nonsense argument.

Why do you fear an AR-15 .... It is not the choice of weapon down in the hood.

Why do you think he does fear an AR-15? That's a silly question that does not address any of the issues that he actually has put forward previously in discussions on gun violence.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Who gives a damn about AR-15s? Universal background checks are not happening because the NRA and by extension their wholly owned subsidiary in Congress - that would largely be the Republican delegation - won't even allow it to come up for a vote. That is where the debate always stops - when anyone suggests that background checks ought to be mandated for every transfer of firearms. The next thing you hear is "they're coming for our guns" from the paranoid NRA disciples.

You do evidently

What about when the Democrats controlled Congress? Why nothing then?

Never said I feared it, just pointed out when the question is asked, folks get jittery. What's with the hood comment? I don't live there, contrary to your belief. How would you know about it, do you live in the hood? That might explain the obsession with black people...

Asinine comment.

So tell me. Ar-15's are used in less gun crime than almost any other kind of gun in the US, The most popular weapons in mass killing are handguns and shotguns. So rather than ask why want one, the O{P was why anyone would want to ban them. Maybe you can tell me a logical reason a weapon that is almost zero percent of the gun violence problem in this country, is the weapon everyone wants to ban. It's like wanting to stop dog attacks and wanting to ban poodles.

It appears from the central statistic you posted, if we banned everything but hammers, we would dramatically reduce the number of people killed. 13 of 14 incidents prevented! You presented a good argument for banning all types of guns.

Seriously though, I think the real problem with the debate on guns is the extremist elements on both sides drowning out the vast majority of folks who clearly recognize that gun violence is indeed a problem in the United States. Being concerned about this doesn't place someone automatically in the seize all guns camp.

I think you are KORRECT

I did present a argument that would appear to lean toward banning all guns, which is an argument that would make a hell of a lot more sense than "Oh let's ban one specific weapon that is used less than any other in firearms homicides because of the way it looks".

Now I don't agree with banning all guns, I a just saying it would at least have some ogic to it, although logic I don't agree with. Calling for banning AR-15's is just idiotic

Anti gun? Banning strictly AR-15's?

Who is anti-gun and who has called for banning strictly AR-15's?

I swear that for some in this forum the words that are typed over and over on these issues is nothing more than this:

Well Pistols and shotguns were by far the weapon of choice in the majority of Mass Killings. So tell us again why you with to ban weapons that look like assault rifles . There is no logical reason to support any conclusion tat it would accomplish anything

Glocks and shotguns were used in more mass shootings. You are picking a gun that kills les people than all otehrs types, yet you want to ban it. No logical reason

I am in favor of an assault weapons ban as a small part of a very comprehensive gun control program. Harpa gave you an extensive list of things that should at the very least be considered, if not implemented. You didn't like that list and you made it clear that you are not ready for any significant changes to help curb gun deaths, so there's really no sense in going any further.

Just curious. How many senseless deaths are ok for a gun? What's the magic number of deaths where a gun is deemed as being good?
