Question about visiting

So we are in the process of purchasing tickets for me the petitioner (U.S. Citizen) to visit Canada (fiancé's country) for a few days. I'm trying to figure out what I should say at the border. In the past I have always said something along the lines of "I'm here on vacation and to visit friends." and usually they would ask me who I was visiting and where I would be staying. With our petition in process for Mike to come to the states, should I approach customs this time with the stated intent of visiting my fiancé or should I stick to the visiting friends bit? I plan on taking my NOA1 receipt, copy of paystubs, possibly a return to work letter, and of course will be booking a round trip flight. I have previously applied for a work permit in Canada but was denied because I did not meet certain qualifications for the type of permit I applied for. I have no overstays. Lawyer says it shouldn't be too much of a problem to visit, but it's up to the officer. I just thought I would throw the question out there and see what people have done in the past and what their approach was when they visited. Any thoughts on this would be super appreciated. We're planning a trip because it looks like it's going to be a super long wait for TSC. :(:ranting: Hopefully Canada will let me come and visit for the holidays as well.

A journey of 2855KM begins with a single step.

CBSA officers see cases like yours everyday. it's nothing new to them. stick to the truth.

my wife is a US citizen, and she would come and visit me all the time. when they asked her, she told them why she's here and it was never a problem.

be assertive in your answers.

it is your right to be visiting your significant other.

Agreed with everyone else's responses. My Fiance just came to visit a couple weeks ago and had no problem coming across by air. Just answered the same questions as always:

- Purpose of visit: To visit my Fiance

- When are you returning: 4 days

- Do you travel here often: Every couple months if I can

- CBSA Officer looks at computer: WOW! Yes, you do! Have a good trip

I am doing my fist visit since starting the visa process... hoping it will be the same experience for me.

One thing I did not realize until joining VJ and applying for the visa: You should always have proof of ties to home country when you cross borders. I think Canadians get a little relaxed on this... Now I always will carry some proof with me
