Hi everyone.

I’ve posted this topic in another immigration forum (some of you may read it and might have seen this before), but I’m trying to get as many opinions as I can.

We’ve just received our NOA2 so the medical will soon be impending - I’m hoping to move from UK to the US on a K1 later in the year. The issue I have is that back in 2006 I was diagnosed with anxiety/OCD, which I’d had forever but got particularly bad around that time. I sought treatment, did a course of CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and was put on 5mg of olanzapine.

I’ve never had any issues since - never been back for therapy, never had any episodes, etc. I’ve also never attempted suicide or self-harmed, nor have I harmed anyone else, caused criminal damage, whatever. No criminal record, no illegal drug use, no alcoholism. I’ve never been hospitalised due to my anxiety, either voluntarily or under section.

What I’m worried about is the fact that I’m still on medication. Is this going to count against me at the interview?

I’m confident about the medical itself as I have two letters - one from my GP and one from the mental health professional who did my CBT - both saying I’ve never been a danger to myself or anyone else, never considered suicide, etc. They outline the medication I’m on, that it’s for anxiety and not psychosis or anything else and they’re both recent assessments.

We’ve also looked into prices of the medication out there, so I’ll be going in armed with that information should they ask about it.

Should I be worried? I fear they’ll either think of me as unstable because I need medication, or that I’ll be a public charge (her mum his sponsoring us). I considered coming off the medication but I’m worried about doing it at such a stressful time, especially since I’ve been on it so long.

I’ve seen a few people in my digging who have been accepted despite actual suicide attempts and evidence of self harm but (surprise!) I can’t shake the anxiety.

Any advice?

I would not expect it to be an issue.

You are prepared with further information for the Knightsbridge doctor who will want some medical background. If he needs more, he will tell you. Taking medication does not preclude a person from immigrating. You have read stories of people with health problems who got visas. So now just wait for your turn to see the doc and let him evaluate your individual case. Nobody knows what will happen, but it hasn't been so bad for those who have commented in this forum before. Hearing success stories, like you already have, didn't calm them down either.

The focus is on communicable diseases or harm to others.
