Personal experience. 27 Dec 2006, Moscow, Russia. BOTH parts of DS-230 were REQUIRED, submitted and ACCEPTED.

"List of Documents for Fiancé (e) Visa Interview

1. Biographical form DS-230 filled out in English (part 1 and part 2). A separate form must be filled out for immigrating child over 16 years of age."

There is a reason for this statement on a government site: "A Fiancé(e) Is Also an Immigrant "

Now as to your dilemma, have they already accepted only 1 part of your DS-230? if so, what was the date of the interview? Which consulate? or are you just making an 'assumption' that they won't take the complete form??

If you would read my profile you would know what consulate. You are Russia, I am Ukraine. I am reading the instructions direct from Packet 3. DO NOT send any documents to the consular office except KEV-1 form for K and V visas and KEV-1 form accompanied by DS-230 Part I for immigrant visas. I assume they follow there own instructions.

He didn't get it because it doesn't work that way for K1s. Right - they are immigrants. Immigrants who have to go to the SS office and apply for a SS card.

You are so wrong.

I am so wrong? He checked the box, he didn't get his SSN.

A Fiancé(e) Is Also an Immigrant

Because a fiancé(e) visa permits the holder to immigrate to the U.S. and marry an American citizen shortly after arrival in the United States' date=' the fiancé(e) must meet some of the requirements of an immigrant visa.[/quote']

No one is disputing that fiances are regarded as immigrants. This, hoever, does NOT mean the SS office will automatically send the card if the box is checked.

Your attitude is obnoxious and I am finished here.

Don't you think if something had recently changed, it would be all of the forum?

It's not recent, and it's that kind of atitude that prevents correction and prevents the latest information from being passed around.

I asked a simple question: Where does it say that ONLY CR-1's and IR-1's can get a SSN via DS-230??

Yes, maybe some folks have followed the new procedure and didn't get their card right away. Does anything work well when the government changes things?? IMBRA was a mess.

I'm still waiting for the quote about CR-1's and IR-1's not someone's however well intended interpretation.

Has her SSN arrived yet? If not let us know when it does.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) has a new process for noncitizens to apply for Social Security number (SSN) cards as part of the immigration process. Now, people age 18 and older applying for immigrant visas with the U.S. Department of State can also apply for SSN cards at the same time.

dwfunk,

Maybe Moscow does, and it is not the only consulate that does, but most consulates do not.

Yodrak

Note also that the SS card item is on DS-230 Part II. Most consulates use only DS-230 Part I (Biographical Information) for the K visas. Part II (Sworn Statement) is not necessary for K visas, the significant items being sworn to are covered on I-485 for adjustment of status.

Not True. BOTH parts were REQUIRED in Moscow for a K-1 applicant.

dwfunk,

Web sites, including government web sites, can be wrong. Just as you claim that the VJ web site is wrong on this issue.

If you want to find the true status of K-visa holders go to the source - the INA or CFR. Try INA 101(a)(15)(k) and 8 CFR 214.2(k)

The K visas are non-immigrant visas, a K-visa holder is a non-immigrant and does not become an immigrant until they have applied for adjustment of status from non-immigrant to immigrant and the application has been approved.

Yodrak

The FAQ is incorrect. So are you.

Things do change, this forum doesn't. I got my approval WITHOUT any IMBRA related issues, but no, that would disturb the OLD knowlegebase. Far be it for things to change and actually get better in the process. Then the old stick-in-the-muds couldn't go around sounding important all the time.

Let me give ya'll a CLUE: Find this quote on a government web site: "A Fiancé(e) Is Also an Immigrant" Then read the additonal info that goes with it. You just might learn something NEW. Gasp!! Heavens forbid if that should happen!!

How to Apply for a Social Security Number Card

After your fiancé(e) has been admitted into the United States, he/she can apply for a social security number card by visiting one of the Social Security offices in your local area. To learn about how-to-apply, visit the website for the Social Security Administration.
