Fall outs and arguments

Im feeling fed up and low today fellow VJ friends.

When I was previously married in the UK or had dated in the UK, arguments or fall outs with my previous partner never seemed very serious and didn't affect me too much. But now I live in America, if me and my husband have a fall out it feels like the end of the world, its almost heart breaking.

I guess its because I am unable to meet up with my best friend for a glass of wine and a girlie gossip (My best friend lived in England and passed away last year). I don't have my sister just a few streets away to have a cup of tea and a good old moan too. I don't have my mother to tell me everything will be ok. I guess when me and my husband have crossed words I feel a little lonely and isolated. Its actually the hardest thing im finding to adjust to.

I suffer severe anxiety which has a lot to do with it. But also losing my best friend, the person who I told everything to someone who always had the ability to make things seem so much better and could always make me smile again makes it difficult. If only heaven had a phone... I would like to call her, have a cry, listen to her soothing words and feel better again.

Arguments and crossed words, fall outs and disagreements are all part of marriage, I understand that. Its only an occasional feature and we are very much in love. I just don't seem to cope well with fall outs in general, maybe its because I don't have the massive support network I did in the UK. Im still building up new friendships, finding my feet here etc...

How do you guys cope when the going gets tough??

And get on the phone to a friend or family member back home. Better yet a skype call and drink some wine with them.

Repeat this to yourself: "If a man says something in a forest and no one is around to hear it, is he still wrong?"

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

i suggest you find the brit expats in your area

via

meetup.com

then make some new friends in your locale. sure - it's not the same as back home - but it's not the same for the other folk you'll meet, either [so you instantly have something in common and can start a righteous b-fest right there]

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Several bottles of wine

This mostly.

Also I am a puss and hate confrontation, so I usually roll over within an hour. We never really fight about serious things.

Sorry to hear about your friend, though. That's rough. Hugs.

I love a guy who looks like he could be on Criminal Minds as either an agent or a killer.

Lots of make up sex? It's the best kind!

I'm sorry to hear about your friend :( The Maven gives excellent advice, I would definitely try and get out there and make local friends so you have a support network, it sounds like you are already working on this. Wine is also a great help as everyone else has said!

I have made some great friends since I moved here and a girlfriend treated me to lunch today which was nice. I guess I was just having a moment this morning. I have just started applying for my first job here and have had 3 interviews so far this week, so a full-time job will most certainly keep my mind more busy and focused on other things.

You guys are the best

Stress sucks. Hubs and I are stressing because we're house shopping, which he doesn't enjoy in the slightest.

I agree just talk to your spouse, give each other some space to calm down, then have some together time. If need be, call your family back home.

Thank you NLR... we are going through the same too, so that might be where some of the added stress is coming from. We are hoping to move end of August.
