Hello everybody out there,

My fiancée had her interview June 6th, everything went fine, but ... she worked some time in Brunei, more than 6 months, so the Embassy asked her for a Brunei Police report which we overlooked complete. Now we are in the process trying to get it, and it looks is not easy. Brunei embassy wants a letter from the USA Embassy, we are trying to get it.

Right now, my fiancée case is in Administrative Process untilt hat police report is provided.

Anybody out there with a similar case?

My fiancee said she saw a couple girls at the USA Embassy, one worked in Japan 10 years ago, and another one in Singapore have similar cases. Visa not approved because they did not have their respective police report.

To anybody out there, if your fiancée has worked in another country for more than six months, have the police report from that country ready during the interview.

It's required that if you stay abroad for more than 6 months, you need the police report from that country. My fiancee is in the same situation. We plan to go to Singapore to obtain the report.

How do you get the letter from the US Embassy asking for this police report ? Do you request it during the interview ? Can you request this prior to the interview ? I just want to get all the duck lined up so I don't waste any time doing the paper work.

Thanks,

Well during the interview, she was told that an email was going to be sent to her by the end of the day with further instructions. She did not get anything.

We are sending an email to : ivmanilareplies@state.gov requesting that letter. I was planing sending a regular letter via 2GO, but we will try the email approach first.

Good luck!

Thanks. I know you didn't know about this after the fact, but based on your experience, once we receive package 2 from the Embassy, is there a way for us to obtain this letter up front so we can get the police report by the time we interview ? I tried to asked this question before but the Embassy customer service refused to answer us because our case is still pending at the USCIS :(

Based on my experience, not sure if you can get that letter before the interview. Now, have you have tried to get the police report already? You know, different countries have different requirements. If I were you, I will give it a shot.

The interview was so easy!!! She got only one question: do you love this man? Wow! By the 10 AM she was out.

She's in Vietnam and the police report from VN govt is very easy. She also lived in Singapore for a few years. We contacted the Sing. govt to ask for this and they simply said they needed an email/request from the US embassy to do this and it's on a case by case request thing. Even so, it's 10 days to get it done.

I literally cannot support this enough! It took my fiance 3 months to get his police cert from South Africa, and that was with many emails, phone calls, mail tracking (epic fail), and his very own mother working it on his behalf. Thankfully, he began the process before we got our NOA2. The documents from South Africa were the most time-consuming part of this process.

Note: he went through Ireland's embassy, and on their paperwork sent with Packet 3, it stated that he'd need police certificates for each country he lived in for a year or more. So the 6-month standard may be embassy specific.

Edit to include how he was able to get the ball rolling on his out-of-country documents before Ireland's embassy told him he'd need it: he went to the SA embassy in Dublin and told them he was immigrating to the US, and they took his fingerprints and filled out a form which he then mailed to the police in South Africa.

This is not a good news  I am hoping our case will be solved in some 3 months.

I can't imagine yours taking as long. SA is notorious for terrible inefficiency regarding documents and their mail system. It's a mess. :(

We needed Singapore for ours. While the system worked, it took an eternity. Luckily at the time we had an eternity. The embassy where you interview has the form letters to the countries that request them. To get the letter, you email them and request it. Took Manila 30 days to send the letter to my fiance. After that she sent the letter and all the forms to Singapore Police, who promised 10 day turnaround. Yeah, right. Try 10+40. We got it, but it took that long. 80 days in total. Luckily we started it early and had the time.

If you can physically get to the embassy or to the police department you need to do business with, that will save some time. Other than that, no real way to speed them up.

Do you suggest that we took the form from the US Emabassy in Vietnam, bring it to Singapore Police dept. to submit and wait 10 days. It'll be faster this way ? We plan to do this anyway. Worse case is it's only a few flight tickets from VN to Sing but it's better than waiting 2 months :)

Hello Lady_troll,

Thank you for your tip. I think we will do that, bring the interview letter and my fiancée letter requesting the police report. Now, how did your Mom get the letter, by regular mail, or the Brunei Embassy call her that the letter was ready to pick up?

theyre the one who will send it to brunei, she also need to bring a copy of her passport and a fee (forgot how much). Once its ready, they will give her a call. just tell her to be patient coz people who works there will give her a roundabout. she needs to be there after 9 and not after 1pm coz they will not entertain her.
